I just use Quicktax. It works well enough, even with capital gains. Filing taxes is something I would rather do myself, rather than trust a 'professional' who may not have my best interests at heart.

If your taxes are straightforward then just do it yourself, use one the of software programs (free or that cost a little $).
It only makes sense to hire someone when you can't understand/do it yourself...and so-called loop holes probably only exist in more complicated situations.

My dad one year decided to go and get it done by someone hoping they would get him a bigger refund, maybe by H&R I forget, and they gave him a refund amt less than when he did it himself...and his taxes are pretty simple, no complicated investments or anything.

I use Studiotax too. It is easy to use , walks you though the process and is free. Most of my family now use it too.

If you do that - Than for sure you are expecting a higher tax liability. Those sitting at CRA, are not familiar with your personal details (you know more than anybody else).
You have to sort it out & file your taxes (too much papers can confuse them).

I went to H&R Blockhead today and it took me a whole of 5 minutes to file! And trust me, the money I paid was well worth the investment, as math makes me sweat like no tomorrow...That's why I do communications for a living...
