Millard and Smich to be sentenced for Laura Babcock murder

There will be a sentencing hearing today for two men convicted of first-degree murder. Dellen Millard and Mark Smich were recently convicted of killing Laura Babcock, who's been missing for five years. First-degree murder carries an automatic life sentence with no chance of parole for at least 25 years, but the presiding judge must decide if the pair will face consecutive or concurrent parole ineligibility periods. Both men were previously convicted in the unrelated murder of Tim Bosma.

Canada clinches first gold medal of Games

Canada has won its first gold of the winter games in South Korea. A veteran group of decorated figure skaters collaborated for Canada’s first gold medal of the Pyeongchang Olympics. Gabrielle Daleman clinched the top spot in the team figure skating competition after finishing third in the women's free skate. Teammates Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir won the ice dance segment of the event, while Patrick Chan came first in the men's free program. Canadian snowboarder Laurie Blouin has won a silver medal in the women's slopestyle, even after falling in a practice run, which she ended up in the hospital for a bit. Laurie ended up with a black eye, but a silver to show for it.

Casey gets 300th win; Raptors beat Hornets

DeMar DeRozan had 25 points and eight assists and C.J. Miles had 24 points and the Toronto Raptors routed the Charlotte Hornets 123-103 Sunday. Raptors coach Dwane Casey earned his 300th victory as head coach of the team.

The best way to celebrate Darwin Day is to really study evolution and familiarize yourself with the concept of ‘Natural Selection’. It’s an often misunderstood concept, with people mistaking ‘Survival of the Fittest’ for ‘Survival of the Best’, and failing to grasp that ‘fittest’ is for a certain set of circumstances.

Trump's 2019 NASA Budget Request Puts Moon Ahead of Space Station

NASA's 2019 budget request formalizes the agency's handover of human-spaceflight activities in low-Earth orbit to private industry, in favor of a shift toward the moon.
The budget request, which was released today (Feb. 12), allocates about $19.9 billion to NASA, an increase of $370 million over last year's request.
The proposal zeroes out funding for the International Space Station (ISS) in 2025 and allocates $150 million "to encourage development of new commercial low-Earth orbital platforms and capabilities for use by the private sector and NASA," according to the agency's budget overview.
The newly unveiled request gives some more details about NASA's plans to return astronauts to the moon,
a focus that President Donald Trump made official with the signing of "Space Policy Directive 1" in December.
If all goes according to plan, the agency will launch a "power and propulsion space tug," a component of NASA's planned outpost in near-moon space, in 2022. And astronauts will launch on a mission around the moon, using the agency's Orion capsule and Space Launch System megarocket, in 2023.

After she woke up, a woman told her husband, "I just dreamed you gave me a diamond necklace for Valentine’s Day. What do you think it means?"

"You’ll know tonight," he said.
That evening the husband came home with a small package and gave it to his wife. Delighted, she opened it--to find a book entitled “The Meaning of Dreams.”

Three elderly men are sitting on a porch on a Sunday afternoon. They complain about how they can’t go to the bathroom. The first old man says "I wake up every morning at 6 O'clock, try to urinate, wait an hour, and nothing comes out". The second old man says "That’s nothing, I wake up every morning at 7:30 and I try to have a bowel moment. I wait for an hour and nothing comes out". The third man says he can beat them all. He says “Every morning I urinate at 6 o'clock and I have a bowel movement at 7:30". The three men are baffled at this and ask, "What's so bad about that?”
The third old man replies, "I don’t wake up till 8:00".
