Humidity soars, heat warning issued for GTA

The last week before school starts is going to be a scorcher. Well, at least the next 3 days. A heat warning is now in effect for Toronto and the surrounding areas. Environment Canada says humid air will move in today and will stick around until Wednesday. The high is expected to reach 31 degrees today, however it will feel more like a sticky 41 degrees with the humidex

'Buck-a-beer' beings in Ontario Monday

‘Buck-a-beer’ arrives in Ontario today with three brewers set to take part in the program. The minimum price of a bottle or can of beer will be lowered to $1 from $1.25 for any beer that’s 5.6% alcohol or less. Loblaw is offering up its President’s Choice brews for a limited time at $1 a bottle but only in Beer Stores. The other two brewers are Barley Days Brewery of Picton and Cool Beer Brewing of Etobicoke. The three companies are the only ones taking part — among the 272 craft breweries in Ontario as well as the 15 foreign-owned breweries.

Brooke Henderson makes Canadian history at CP Women's Open

20-year-old Brooke Henderson has become the first Canadian to win the CP Women's Open in 45 years, achieving Canadian golf history. The Smiths Falls, Ont. native became just the second Canadian woman to win the tournament and the fourth Canadian woman or man since 1950 to win an LPGA or PGA Tour event on home soil.

Heat warning continues for GTA

Another heat warning has been issued from both Environment Canada and the city' Medical Officer of Health for today. Get ready for another day of excruciating heat with a high of 32°C that Global News Meteorologist Anthony Farnell says will feel uncomfortable with the humidity. Expect the humidex value to reach 42°C. More seasonal temperatures should arrive late tomorrow. You may have seen or heard a number of emergency messages about tornado warnings for areas north of Toronto last night. Two dangerous thunderstorms did pass through cottage country and one of them did, for a moment, produce a tornado -- 20-kilometres northeast of Barrie in Edgar.

Ontario judge rules in favour of Tesla in rebate program dispute

Good news for the Canadian arm of Tesla as an Ontario court has ruled in favour for the automaker, saying the new Doug Ford government's cancellation of the electric vehicle rebate program was unfair. Ontario Superior Court judge Frederick L. Myers said the decision to exclude Tesla from a grace period for the program's wind-down was arbitrary and had singled out Tesla for harm. Tesla launched a legal petition in July after the Ontario government said it would only extend rebates to vehicles already sold through franchised dealerships if they were delivered and registered within 60 days, which excluded Tesla's Ontario dealerships.

Morales’ home-run streak ends at 7 games as Orioles shut out Blue Jays

Blue Jays’ Kendrys Morales failed to homer in an eighth straight game Monday in Baltimore as Toronto was defeated 7-0 by the Orioles. Morales’ homerless performance ended his attempt to make baseball history. Striving to tie the major-league record of homering in eight straight games, Morales went 0 for 3 with a walk.
