evening Q sters,

hope everyone enjoyed their thanksgiving monday. the weather again was fabulous. the only thing i found annoying was the bizillions of biting ladybugs & little tiny black flies that also bite. today wasn't quite as bad as the last 2 days. had to take my basement sump pump outside & tried to clean it all up, but found out even after the cleaning, it still doesn't pump out the water, just swirls it around. will have to buy a new one tomorrow. one good thing is the basement hasn't flooded yet. the weather is suppose to change by wednesday & get rainy.
i've had a few people ask about the apple-pecan olive oil cake, so here is the recipe. hope you like it, i know i did.

Apple Pecan Olive Oil Cake for Thanksgiving





There is nothing that says fall better than an apple cake and this one from Chatelaine recipes is pretty easy to assemble and looks amazing when baked. So with our Canadian Thanksgiving just around the corner I hope this cake inspires you to bake it for your own feast.

APPLE PECAN OLIVE OIL CAKE



Ingredients
• 1 cup all-purpose flour
• 1/2 cup whole-wheat flour
• 3/4 tsp cinnamon
• 1/2 tsp baking soda
• 1/2 tsp nutmeg
• 1/2 tsp salt
• 1 egg
• 1 cup granulated sugar
• 2/3 cup extra-virgin olive oil
• 1/2 cup chopped pecans
• 1 1/2 cups peeled, grated apples (about 1 1/2 apples) preferably Granny Smith
• 1 firm red apple, preferably Royal Gala, cut in half and thinly sliced
• 15 pecan halves

• FOR GLAZE:
• 1/4 cup brown sugar
• 2 tsp extra-virgin olive oil
This moist, delicious cake is chock full of apples and nuts, plus the goodness of whole wheat and olive oil — and it’s dairy-free! Pretty enough for parties, it’s also perfect for brunch

1. Preheat oven to 325F. Insert the base of a 9-in. springform pan lip-side down. Lightly spray with oil, then line with parchment. Set aside.
2. Whisk flours with cinnamon, baking soda, nutmeg and salt in a medium bowl. Whisk egg with granulated sugar and 2/3 cup oil in a large bowl. Stir fl our mixture into egg mixture. Stir in chopped pecans and grated apples. Scrape into prepared pan and smooth top. Arrange overlapping apple slices around edge of cake. Arrange pecan halves in one layer in centre. Make glaze by stirring brown sugar with 2 tsp olive oil and 2 tsp water in a small bowl. Microwave until sugar melts, 30 sec. Brush apples and pecans with half of mixture. Reserve the rest.
3. Bake in centre of oven until a tester inserted into centre of cake comes out clean, about 45 min. Transfer to a rack. Brush top of warm cake with remaining sugar mixture. Run a knife between the pan and the outer edge of the cake, then remove ring. Gently remove cake from base. Let cool completely, about 1 hour. Serve with whipped cream. Keeps well at room temperature for up to 3 days.
Flipping the base of a springform pan will make it easier to remove the cake.

Just received from my mom's friend!

An Irishman went to Confession in St. Patrick's Catholic Church.

'Father', he confessed, 'it has been one month since my last confession.
I had sex with Kitty Green twice last month.'

Soon thereafter, another Irish man entered the confessional.
'Father, it has been two months since my last confession.
I've had sex with Kitty Green twice a week for the past two months.'

This time, the priest questioned, 'Who is this Kitty Green?'

'A new woman in the neighbourhood,' the sinner replied.

'Very well,' sighed the priest.. Go and say ten Hail Mary's.

At mass the next Christmas morning, as the priest prepared to deliver the sermon,
a tall, voluptuous, drop-dead gorgeous redheaded woman entered the sanctuary.
The eyes of every man in the church fell upon her as she slowly sashayed
up the aisle and sat down right in front of the priest.
Her dress was green and very short, and she wore matching, shiny emerald-green shoes.

The priest and the altar boy gasped as the woman in the green dress and matching green
shoes sat with her legs spread slightly apart, but just
enough to realize she wasn't wearing any underwear.

The priest turned to the altar boy and whispered,

'Is that Kitty Green?'

The bug-eyed altar boy couldn't believe his ears but managed to calmly reply,

'No Father, I think it's just a reflection from her shoes'.

Happy Monday evening...

I hope everyone got out and enjoyed the beautiful day...

We got a great deal accomplished around here...
and I do not feel like working the rest of the week.

I do have a Dr's note that I didn't ask for, for a week off....

We had our turkey yesterday and had no room for dessert...

We had friends over today, and we all savored and enjoyed
the pumpkin and apple pies.... after dinner....

Hope everyone had an amazing Thanksgiving.

I had a lovely dinner at my friend's yesterday, then a nice lunch with my folks today. Tonight I was at the theatre watching an Ibsen play (kinda dark & dreary for such a lovely day!).

I have a lot to be thankful for this year, not the least of which are the wonderful folks on SC. Oh & the doctors let my friend escape just in time for Thanksgiving! Except, the none-too-bright social worker "forgot" to arrange for home care. Good thing one of her relatives is a nurse & taking good care of her (& giving the hosp a piece of her mind - home care is coming tomorrow ).
