Good morning, everyone.
Meant to mention the fun play I saw last night, Spent. It's about the banking collapse in 2008 (sort of). It's 2 very talented actors, the best part is a 6 person round table discussion where some panelists almost get into a fight (yes, the 2 actors play all 6 - you have to see it to understand). Lots of fun.

Then, as per my usual Sat routine, I stayed to listen to the cabaret night (country ish music, opera arias and a fascinating discussion of how lighting effects in plays).
The critters had me up early, I think I need another nap.
Hope everyone has a wonderful day.

A hangover is the wrath of grapes.
A boiled egg in the morning is hard to beat.
A chicken crossing the road is poultry in motion.
When a clock is hungry, it goes back four seconds.
Bakers trade bread recipes on a knead-to-know basis.
Sure, the grocery store clerk can sell meat. But will he produce?
A friend got some vinegar in his ear, now he suffers from pickled hearing.
I've seen some really awful truffles in my day. Nobody knows the truffles I've seen.
When I realized I was addicted to Thanksgiving leftovers, I decided to quit cold turkey.

Happy almost afternoon, PSunday!
I was MIA yesterday as we had some friends visit from out of town.
They will not have to eat for the next few days base on all the food
we had prepared...
Actually, I sit corrected... It was my husband that prepared it all.
I just cleaned before and after...
He is an amazing 'chef ' and our guests always want the recipes of
the food he has made.
We noticed too last event that the beer bugs are back...
We hadn't seen any this summer until last night. I got up to get something
from inside, went back out and found 3 in my wine. I wasn't thrilled...
My mom is coming for a visit Thursday until Sunday.
There is no long weekend in Montreal, and she has things to do,
appointments etc.
I am very fortunate as is she, that @ 84 she still drives and keeps
so busy with her friends.... Still quite a few she has known from
kindergarten. Amazing... to see them together...
They go for dinner, theatre, movies... and the range in age from 82- 90.
I can only hope I have 1/2 the energy they have when I reach that age...
Thank you to the trivia, WW, reps, notes PMs....
I have a great deal of catching up to do.
I am feeling better.... not yet 100% though I am making my way there.
I still have cough left in me.... that doesn't to want to leave me...
I do hope that you can get out and enjoy the
The wind feels coolish and of course the humidity.... makes it
seem hotter... No complaints....
Simply enjoy yourselves and have some fun....
I will see you soon!

IT'S SO HOT...
The birds have to use potholders to pull worms out of the ground.
The trees are whistling for the dogs.
Hot water now comes out of both taps.
You can make sun tea instantly.
You learn that a seat belt buckle makes a pretty good branding iron.
The temperature drops below 95 F (35 C) and you feel a little chilly.
You discover that it only takes 2 fingers to steer your car.
You actually burn your hand opening the car door.
You break into a sweat the instant you step outside at 7:30 a.m.
Your biggest bicycle wreck fear is, "What if I get knocked out and end up lying on the pavement and cook to death?"
You realize that asphalt has a liquid state.
The cows are giving evaporated milk.
The potatoes cook underground, so all you have to do is pull one out and add butter.

This requires no comment from me.....
"Shifty" By Chuck Yeager
Shifty volunteered for the airborne in WWII and served with Easy
Company of the 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment, part of the 101st
Airborne Infantry. If you've seen Band of Brothers on HBO or the
History Channel, you know Shifty. His character appears in all 10
episodes, and Shifty himself is interviewed in several of them.
I met Shifty in the Philadelphia airport several years ago. I didn't
know who he was at the time. I just saw an elderly gentleman having
trouble reading his ticket. I offered to help, assured him that he was
at the right gate, and noticed the "Screaming Eagle," the symbol of
the 101st Airborne, on his hat.
Making conversation, I asked him if he'd been in the 101st Airborne
or if his son was serving. He said quietly that he had been in the
101st. I thanked him for his service, then asked him when he served,
and how many jumps he made.
Quietly and humbly, he said "Well, I guess I signed up in 1941 or so,
and was in until sometime in 1945 ..." at which point my heart
skipped.
At that point, again, very humbly, he said "I made the 5 training
jumps at Toccoa, and then jumped into Normandy . . . do you know
where Normandy is?" At this point my heart stopped.
I told him "yes, I know exactly where Normandy is, and I know what
D-Day was." At that point he said "I also made a second jump into
Holland , into Arnhem ." I was standing with a genuine war hero ...
and then I realized that it was June, just after the anniversary of
D-Day.
I asked Shifty if he was on his way back from France , and he said
"Yes... And it 's real sad because, these days, so few of the guys are
left, and those that are, lots of them can't make the trip." My heart
was in my throat and I didn't know what to say.
I helped Shifty get onto the plane and then realized he was back in
coach while I was in First Class. I sent the flight attendant back to
get him and said that I wanted to switch seats. When Shifty came
forward, I got up out of the seat and told him I wanted him to have
it, that I'd take his in coach.
He said "No, son, you enjoy that seat. Just knowing that there are
still some who remember what we did and who still care is enough to
make an old man very happy." His eyes were filling up as he said it.
And mine are brimming up now as I write this.
Shifty died on Jan. l7 after fighting cancer.
There was no parade.
No big event in Staples Center .
No wall-to-wall, back-to-back 24x7 news coverage.
No weeping fans on television.
And that's not right!
Let's give Shifty his own memorial service, online, in our own quiet way.
Please forward this email to everyone you know. Especially to the veterans.
Rest in peace, Shifty.
Chuck Yeager, Maj. General [ret.]
P.S. I think that it is amazing how the "media" chooses our "heroes" these days...
Michael Jackson & the like!
"SHIFTY" - an incredible American hero
SHIFTY DIED JAN 17, 2011..........May God rest his soul.
Please do me a favor and pass this on so that untold thousands can
read it. We owe no less to our REAL heroes...
