Good morning, everyone.

It's finally warm and sunny! Lily dog and I spent over an hour spying on the neighbours earlier (it got to the point where my legs were numb from her playing lap-dog).

Lunch yesterday was very yummy. Went to a little hole-in-the-wall Thai place near me (http://www.sukhothaifood.ca/). We split an order of mango salad and spicy spring rolls (we used the chili sauce to cool it off!), then coconut tapioca pudding for dessert. I'm still drooling.

Today's project will be to clean/organize my fridge, as it's essential I make room for wine when friends come for a visit tonight.

Better get started with some chores. Or play with the brats.

Pig Farmer Decides to Quit Killing Animals and Grow Veggies Instead

A remarkable change of heart guided seasoned pig farmer Bob Comis to swap pig farming for vegetable growing. Besides being great news for the pigs, this move is an inspiration for anyone struggling to break away from conventional ways of living in search of a more compassionate lifestyle.

Having spent the last decade building a successful pig farm, now home to 500 pigs, Bob decided he could no longer live with the inner conflict and turmoil that had been nagging away at him for years. He was struggling with the inherent ethical battle that comes from making money out of the death of other animals. While he cared for his pigs to the best of his ability and believed in giving farmed animals a good life, he knew there was no way to avoid the fact that no matter how well he looked after the pigs, they had a death sentence hanging over them from the moment they were born.
In a recent article, Bob explained, “I understood that much more than my diet had changed the moment I became a vegetarian. I understood that I, personally, could not be a vegetarian pig farmer and be truly happy. I felt I could not ethically say no to eating pigs and other animals, but say yes at the same time to raising them for slaughter, regardless of how nice I could make their lives, or how painless their deaths might be in the quality, calmly paced, small slaughterhouse that I use.”
How He Made the Transition

Having made the decision to quit pig farming for vegetable farming, Bob faced the very real possibility that he would be putting his entire financial stability at stake. He knew he was taking a gamble on a completely new farming business in which he had no real expertise or experience. As terrifying as the prospect was, he knew in his heart that it was what he needed to do to live a peaceful and happy life.

Unfortunately, the switch will not be soon enough for his current group of pigs. Bob will undoubtedly find the next year to be the hardest of his life, but his move to a more compassionate lifestyle will undoubtedly mean an end to future suffering.
What Everyone Can Learn From Bob Comis

This story is a reminder that we can only be truly happy when we align our actions with our morals. The personal, social, and economic struggles that Bob has had to overcome to match his lifestyle with his new beliefs will resonate with many who have a burning desire to live a more compassionate lifestyle but are met with internal and external resistance along the way. A pig farmer is one of the last people you would ever expect to turn his back on eating animals, but if Bob can do it, anyone can.
