    Even cooler than the full moon, if you look at the western sky after sunset, you will see two bright points of light. The brighter one on the right is Venus, and the not as bright (but brighter than any other star) on the left is Jupiter. As the month progresses, the two planets will appear to get closer and closer together. On June 30th, Venus and Jupiter will be in conjunction, and will be the closest to each other from our Earthly point of view!

    In reality, the two planets are millions of miles away from each other. Venus is racing around the sun and will be passing Earth as our orbit is slower. Also, Jupiter is on the other side of the solar system. So this is why and inner planet looks so close to an outer planet from our vantage point.
