Winter is coming...

It will quickly turn from fall to winter in just a few hours here in the GTA today. A winter weather travel advisory is in effect as snowfall and rapidly falling temperatures could affect road conditions late this afternoon or during the evening commute. The mercury is set to reach nine degrees by about 3pm before diving all the way down to minus 10 overnight. In addition to the cold temperatures, some areas north of the GTA could also be looking at snowfall amounts of up to 15 centimeters.

Owning a vehicle is expensive

The latest edition of Global News "Cost of Living series” shows for most Canadians, transport is the second biggest expense, behind only rent and mortgage payments - - about 20% of an average, after-tax, household income. The report suggests that when you factor in depreciation - owning a vehicle in Canada will run you anywhere between $8600 and $13,000, close to the $12,000 Canadians pay on average in rent for a two-bedroom apartment. Factoring in insurance, parking and maintenance show that not only is it cheaper to use public transit, but ten times cheaper. On average, a year's worth of adult monthly public transport passes costs around $940 in Canada.
