Just tell me how a large, heavy brown manilla envelope, with my name in large printing on the left front and the forwarding address in large bold print in the center, and scotch-taped all around and on the folds, gets LOST??? They took the envelope from me at the counter, weighed it for postage, put all the stamps on it and placed it in the pile of mail.
HOW DOES IT GET LOST?????
Since I was only able to earn a net income of less than two thousand dollars last year (due to being handicapped by severe illness), I qualified for the supplement of the 55 Plus Income Supplement Program which is a payment of $53.93 per month.
(This is the pension I mentioned in my post, necessitating the preparation and sending of about 25 pages of documentation, similar to an income tax return.)
If I didn't have some money in my savings account, (and coupons and freebies to cut expenses), I would never have survived to this day. I do not have money to insure my mail so that it is not mishandled or stolen by the Canada Post employees. I've sent my income tax return for the past 40 years as non-registered mail, and it has always gotten to the proper destination. All of my bills get to me regularly, and are never LOST in the mail.
And if you yourself don't feel comfortable with the mail-system, due to your own misgivings about the honesty of the employees, why don't you report them to the police? Maybe they are stealing important documents with vital statistics in them because they are involved in identity fraud.
I can tell you that I am sick and tired and infuriated that this has happened to me. That package was mailed to a town only a few miles away, and it didn't get there. Somebody in Canada Post has my vital stastistics and original documents, and this time I'm contacting the police to inform them of what has happened.Last edited by Valiant; Sun, May 9th, 2010 at 02:37 PM.

Registered ones go missing too, and since Canada Post doesn't see the need to scan registered mail when it arrives at a building where they 'get too much mail' my guess is the documents mentioned would not be scanned even if sent express

And another thing, you'd think that the CP employees would be happy enough to just be handling all of our freebie envelopes, because all they have to do is write down the address of these companies and the websites which are often written on the envelopes and packages, and then they could order their own freebies and offers. But no, even that isn't enough for them; they have to steal our stuff!!! It's just too galling that they're stealing them from us, when it's just so easy to get their own when the info is right at hand for them.
And since instead of minding their business and doing their jobs, they're just so nosey and without scruples, they should be paying us a fee for all the research we're doing to get these freebies from the companies, as well as for their dishonesty which we as consumers have to suffer and pay for. Perhaps they should have to issue free stamps for each defrauded consumer, paid out of their union dues, as compensation to the consumers for all of the theft and fraud they are engaging in on a regular basis.
I know that my CP employees always like to look at all my mail addresses carefully and squeeze the packages whenever I have over-the-counter mail coming to me (like kids under a Christmas tree). They are always just so curious about the freebies I'm getting. And the delight in their eyes!!! Why, it's simply "unexplainable"!
PS: Just trying to get it all out of my system, you know.

The other day my hubby went to one of the CanadaPost outlets at a small store to mail a small gift and 2 reletively small thin books for my 1st granddaughters birthday, the guy there tried to charge my hubby $32 and change, my hubby tried to make the package smaller and the guy still wanted $30, my hubby gave the guy $20 to hold it and said he would be back with the rest shortly, when he got home and told me, i was livid at the cost, i told him to go back, get the money and the package back, i put the package alone in a small box and mailed it at a different place for just over $11, then i put the 2 small books in the envelope with my granddaughters birthday card and added 3 stamps to the envelope, hah, much better than $30, that ******* tried to rip my hubby off, and would have if i didn't yell about it.
In regards to your problem; i don't think anything got lost, i think someone wanted the info inside, but i can't swear to it, sorry.
For some stupid reason some people think they HAVE to get revenge on us for something we didn't do, if that's the case it points toward a mental problem.

I understand you are upset but not everyone of us steals lol There are def. a few bad apples and when I say few I mean very few... it's just bugs me that when people see on the news or in the paper of one incident they assume all of us steal and that is what happened to their mail. Things do fall through the cracks sometimes... it might have dropped somewhere and no one has noticed it yet, like beside a machine you just don't know. Or something could have been wrong with the address or something and it is being sent back to you which takes extra long
not sure why that is but it is.
Just saying! Your case may be one of few where it was stolen but you can't just assume that.

What cracks?
Customer hands postal worker large heavy manilla envelope.
PO worker weighs it, and looks over both addies.
Customer pays for postage.
PO worker reads address again, and places it in bag.
Truck comes, loads bags.
Truck travels to destination.
At destination, PO worker places mail on scanner, or reads mail and places it in boxes, or places cards in boxes.
What cracks? Or do the mailbags have holes? Do the floors have cracks?
I checked the address several times, since it was an important envelope.
If something was wrong with it, it's been 2 months, and no word; from a small town only a few miles away. If a large manilla envelopes is lying on the floor at the post office for 2 months (even if it's next to a machine), wouldn't the janitor notice; wouldn't the postal workers notice? But this one has original documents that could be used in identity theft, and we all know there is a black market on that in our country, and it's happening all the time.
I'm still trying to figure out what to do, not just emote about it; I'll be informing the police about it, because they keep track of things like this due to identity fraud, especially with seniors. I'll be calling the PO in the location it was sent, to investigate it further. I'll be noting it on the next documents I send out. I will be telling the PO staff here what I've done about the matter, and let them think about that.
No, no, it didn't just disappear into thin air; you would have us believe that packages and envelopes just vanish...who takes them?..little fairies, gremlins, extraterrestrials?
Now, I didn't say YOU stole it, did I? But it's time to stop blaming the victim, when the customer fulfilled their responsibilities. The public wants accountability and honest, efficient service. We pay for it.

It can fall through the cracks at the mailroom of the receiver too, our mailroom once brought us over something that canada post had a signature for months before. It even had a security scan date on it coming into our building on the date CP said it was delivered. But it was lost somewhere between the mailroom and my office. I am not saying CP is innocent, I have plenty of issues with them myself, but I don't necessarily think that they are stealing either

It sucks that your envelope went missing, however 1 piece of missing mail in 40 years sounds like good odds to me. Things do get lost, it's rubbish but it is a fact of life. Ever lost something in your own house?? It happens. I doubt that Canada Post employees were just waiting to steal your envelope. I wouldn't rule out it being 'lost' in the office you sent it to either.
Although CP outlets are supposed to follow the rules outlined by CP they can very often decide to make up their own. They are not CP employees they are employees of the retail store trying to make a buck. I've had to correct them a number or times.
Opened mail can happen, when it does a supervisor has to come and tape / sticker the envelope shut. If it is open in your mailbox then it could have happened from your mailman but I would also be checking the integrity of your mailbox just in case. Plus you can always call your local depot and have them take extra care.
I think CP do a good job given the sheer volume of mail they deal with. Sh*t happens though like with any companyLast edited by SarahS83; Mon, May 10th, 2010 at 08:11 PM.

see the problem with CP retail outlets is that they dont get the formal training that the union CP workers get...thats why sometimes it varies...I work mornings at a CP outlet and I was trained by the lady who was trained by a CP union employee 20 years ago...no one has checked in or updated the training since then and we are pretty much on our own to figure things out for ourselves when new things come along or when they make changes...
but at our outlet everyone says we are friendlier than the main post office here in town and its literally across the street and down three stores but most people come to us!

That sucks completely! Definately pay the extra to have it registered mail the next time you send it or anything important like that. Back in January I was fighting GM to get my Mothers Benefits reinstated and they were but any correspondence that I did on my Mothers behalf I made sure it was sent registered mail. Good thing, because the President of the CAW called me and said they had never recieved the package from me. I politely asked him to hold, grabbed my laptop computer and my Canada Post reciept. I than went to Canada Posts website and typed in the information and said, "So you haven't received it eh? Interesting because I"m on Canada Posts website right now and it says that it was received on XXX Date and signed by XXX person." He at that time asked me for the tracking number and verified that all documents were received. You have to cover your butt! Because even if the documents aren't received by where you are trying to send them you can verify that you paid Canada Post for the delivery of that item and have that to fall back on.

Well, obviously you haven't bothered to read my post very carefully, because I've already stated that I've had numerous envies and parcels opened and damaged inside my mailbox or over the counter, and the PO staff doesn't even stamp it 'damaged', even though they are supposed to.
What I have found out is that all of these departments I've checked with are passing the buck in this situation, each denying any responsibility, but that doesn't help.
If I had the money for it in the first place, I would have sent it registered mail, because at least I'd have a receipt, but it's not a question of them believing that I sent it. I made partial duplicate copies of the forms they'd sent me and I'd filled out, so I was able to prove that immediately. It's just that my original government-issued slips are gone now, and that's what's necessary to reapply, plus making duplicate copies of 25 pages of income tax return forms.
Today I discussed the matter in person at the PO. The clerk told me that the mail is bundled, then sent on the truck to the city nearby where it remains in bundles, then just sent on another truck to the destination PO (no sorting machines involved here). She also said to "use registered mail next time because there are never any problems with it"), making it look like I'm the guilty party, when it's the other way around. But from what I've read on this thread, registered mail isn't infallible; people are sending 2+ applications registered mail, because they still aren't being recorded as received.
I really think we have the right as consumers to expect better service from Canada Post. They are perfectly aware that mail is getting lost and stolen; they never accept responsibility and have no accountability, just a stock response about 'cracks in the system'. They'll blame the machines for ripped-open mail, but they haven't fixed their own problems, despite years of ongoing complaints from the public. They will even make up their own rules, and bypass correct procedure. There don't seem to be enough checks and balances in their system, therefore they can protect themselves even when they are in the wrong. Even with (or maybe because of) allowances made for human error, things are going from bad to worse. All they have done is regularly increase our postage costs. I told this clerk that since no one could explain what happened to my package, then I'd be contacting the RCMP to report it, because of the possibility of theft and/or identity fraud. Maybe more of us should do that, and word would get around about which outlets are experiencing a high volume of complaints. The 'bad apples' would either be too scared to keep on with their criminal activities, or they would get caught and removed from the system.
I agree with the OP of this thread; Canada Post sucks.Last edited by Valiant; Tue, May 11th, 2010 at 11:02 PM.

It's easy to blame CP but the fact is they may hve delivered it and that department has lost it.
