It's in Alberta. For the first time I noticed the huge sign around the cashier monitor (don't know how I missed it before). This week is was $4 for band-aids. I didn't get asked, but I didn't ask for the free item, because a huge line up was already forming, do to the delay of my $17 worth of coupon.
Cashier was funny, she was saying 'Wow! Extreme Couponing'.
I'll pay attention next time for the Deal of the Week.

i guess if it was something nice that I really need/use often like the sunscreen one i would ask but I don't think I would want to get someone into even minor trouble over free skewers... actually, I'd probably be too shy to ask anyway !

Our Extra Foods started the Deal of the Week also. If the cashier forgets to ask, I just go the customer service desk and they fill out a form there.

If you like free stuff, that is. I just got $20 in free Starbucks. Easy peasy.

My best friends daughter works at the RCSS in Windsor, she just confirmed with me that they have to give it to you free (someone was asking about Ontario) I love that store but usually go to Uscan so I can watch everything more carefully & we scan our own coupons. They don't have to ask you at Uscan though.

wow, you learn something new every day!
Had no idea that this existed.
Very harsh that cashiers get written up if they forget.....but then, I have worked in retail, as a supervisor and know that there are all sorts of rules and tricks that management want to have pushed to help increase the sales.
Will have to pay attention if I am not using the express self checkout, which we usually always do use....to escape the irritation and hassle of a cashier and cpns....lol!!
Win some, lose some.....lol!

Deal of the week has been great for me twice! About two weeks ago I got a 2 pack of BBQ lighters free, and then I got the 80 pack bandaids for free! Thanks RCSS!! still waiting for my $30 PC card WUB $20. Guess it will take longer now with the postal strike!

In Ontario it just started within a month or 2. I went there yesterday morning and they had no sign in their display by the cash I asked what the deal of the week was and she said it was band aids but they were out and offering a huge bottle of hand sanitizer in it's place.
Later in the evening I went back & the band aids came in I went through the line and the cashier forgot to mention the deal. I couldn't say anything because I didn't want to get her in trouble just for band aids.

thats very harsh- upselling at the check out- frankly I don't think they are paid enough for what is expected of them. The big chains should have scanning for coupons- it would make life so much easier for cashiers, especially if they are going to constantly add to their duties
