five short horn blasts...
RUMBLE... apartment vibrates
one long horn blast ( all clear signal )
-they're doing blasting at the construction excavation at the other end of the block... it just adds a soundtrack to the chaos...
oops... peace and quiet? what's that? no.. they aren't blasting right now but they were most of the afternoon..
the pretty flower in post #42333 looks like an Amaryllis...

oh gosh..i thought they were doing that now
how would they expect people to sleep with that noise
those flowers died, perhaps I should have put them in a pot inside.

okay... here's what you do with an amaryllis if you have one again...
grow it and see it flower and then let the leaves live for a few months so they can make enough food (or whatever... you studied photosynthesis in biology, didn't you?) to grow and flower again... then cut the leaves off and let it dry out completely and put it in a paper bag and into a dark dry corner of a closet or cupboard and forget about it for another few months...
then.. bring it out and start watering it again and place it by the window and it might sprout again and produce another new whole set of flowers! I've had the same amaryllis bulb in the same old pot for about 12 years now and that's all I ever do... no repotting or fertilizing or anything... it's amazing because there's nothing in the pot except the flower bulb and some peat moss... and you can see by the pic I've posted that my amaryllis is very happy! sometimes it's so happy it produces two stems with 4 massive blooms on each!

^^^ nice roses? I can smell them now...
have you ever smelled wild roses? they are the provincial flower of Alberta... there's nothing like coming around a corner of a trail and finding yourself surrounded by wild roses in full bloom in the hot sun... they're not much to look at but boy do they smell nice!

flowers are an aspiring photographer's friend... they behave, they're photogenic, they're usually very coulourful and beautiful... you can't fail by getting a close up of a flower! who doesn't like flowers?
of course, it's also the dead of winter and it's kinda nice to see some flower pictures, especially when they're in the sun... sigh
