Does anyone shop at Bulk Barn?

I just found out that there's a couple bulk barns in Edmonton and wanted to know how the prices are compared to Superstore bulk foods. I like the idea of buying in bulk and having less packaging but want to save some cash too. Plus I've been told they have a great selection and are usually very clean.

I shop at ours...it's kept meticulously clean, and is well staffed, so I'm not concerned about other people's habits that some places might have.
I absolutely do better buying spices there for pennies and refilling the spice jars I have at home...Sweet 'n Low I buy by the huge bag-ful...dog treats...baking goodies like nuts, chocolate chips, craisins, etc. What I like is that if I need a 1/2C of craisins in a recipe, that's what I buy. No left-overs, and the cost is lower.
Oh. And the Jelly-Bellies. Gotta have some of them every time to go!

I love Bulk Barn.. mine is extremely clean as well. One time I saw a lady drop one of the scoopers on the floor. She was about to pick it up and put it back on the container, but before she had a chance to move, one of the employees swooped in and grabbed it from her to get a clean one. As for the prices, you have to be very careful. A couple of days ago, I bought sugar and flour. The flour turned out to be a much better deal than a bag of robin hood from the superstore, but the sugar turned out to be more expensive!!

I love the Bulk Barn! I usually go when they have $3 off $10 coupons. Spices are a really good deal there. They have a lot of variety there. I really like them for their huge variety of gluten free products.
You really have to know your prices though. Write down the price per unit of things that you normally buy and compare it to the price per unit of the same products in other stores so you can see whether or not you are getting a good deal.

Agree with all the above! Love it - most things are cheaper but a few things aren't. And you will start to see a pattern for staples - ie brown sugar and flour go on sale every few weeks and when they are sale they are much cheaper then the grocery store, when they aren't I'd say they are pretty close in price.

The other thing I sometimes get caught on is nuts - I'll think I just grabbed a small bad then I go to the cash and its $10.00+ dollars!!
