I'm sure most of us here are experiencing the Great Heatwave of 2011 and quite frankly I'm not sure what's so great about it! lol While we do have Central Air it broke down yesterday around 9am It got momentarily repaired around 10:30 pm lastnight and broke down today around 8am this morning *sighs* so we are sitting here in the house with only 2 fans waiting for the repair guy to come and take a look at the unit, he's late btw! lol We are surviving by keeping all the blinds/curtains closed and keeping the 2 fans on constantly but it's still a warm 26C in the house and not the most comfortable situations!
So what are you all doing to try and beat the heat? This thread is currently associated with: N/A

same as you.. we don't have A/C never have.. we have two very LARGE fans going.. windows/blinds are shut. its quite nice. im very used to the heat as like I said we've never had it.. I do enjoy being in stores or other ppls home who have it. but meh can live without it.. Im trying to keep hydrated and not doing a whole lot of work at once. chores are getting done in bits and pieces.. and it seems come middle of January were all complaining about the cold and snow. so not going to complain about the heat. as I don't have to shovel it

I'm finding it cooler than last year, I was at the Ottawa Bluesfest last night and noticed it was quite chilly, in years past I've always been hot the entire time...Currently I'm at work with the AC on...
at the boy's last night/this morning was okay a little hot/sweaty since he doesn't have a fan or AC, but I managed to sleep and normally when it's super hot out I can't sleep, so I figure it's not tooooo bad.

TaraF, if it is 26 degrees upstairs, the basement may be cooler.
If no basement, take a trip to a local mall or retail store with a eating/seating area, until it becomes cooler in the evening

Heat wave? Not round these parts!!! It's only about 24 here today, with a lovely breeze. I'm wearing a long sleeve tshirt. The lawns and gardens are still so lush from all the rain.

walking the dog and puppy, baking a cake, bathing the dog, doing laundry....lol same old same old and drinking lots of water. We do have air but the upstairs one is very crappy so much for spending 500.00 on what I thought would be a good one.

Ugh. I don't handle the heat well. I'd rather be cold because I can always bundle up but there is only so much I can take off lol
We live in a rented townhouse, no central air. We have insulated curtains on our picture window to keep the heat out, and two tower fans. During the day the fans stay downstairs with us, at night one goes in one of the kid's rooms (one of their bedrooms is always hotter then the other) and one goes in our room. If I'm too hot before I go to bed, I take a quick cold shower to cool down.
The thing I hate when it is this hot though is that I don't want to do anything. If I go outside, I sweat buckets (not only extremely irritating to me but I'm a girl so it's a bit embarrassing). If I do too many chores around the house, same thing. SO I just do a bit of chores at a time, spread it out through the day. Drink lot's of cold water, and stay inside on days when it is just too hot for me to go out.
The basement idea is great, it is so much cooler in ours but unfortunately it's not finished so we can't really set up down there. And it's too much money I find to finish it when we're just renting. Still, I nip down there for a few minutes when it's super hot just to get a break.<center><embed src="http://www.widdlytinks.com/myfamily/silhouettes/silhouettefamily.swf" flashvars="t1=The Bernard Family&pv1=0&pn1=6&px1=251.55&pf1=1&pv2=0&pn2=22&p x2=186.8&pf2=0&pv3=0&pn3=12&px3=305.85&pf3=1&pv4=1 &pn4=9&px4=278.8&pf4=0&pv5=1&pn5=3&px5=226.8&pf5=1 &pv6=0&pn6=1&px6=102.8&pf6=1&pv7=1&pn7=24&px7=317. 8&pf7=1" quality="high" wmode="transparent" name="My Family Silhouettes" allowscriptaccess="samedomain" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" pluginspage="http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer" align="middle" height="230" width="500">
