At the right time, a kind word from a stranger, or encouragement from a friend, can make all the difference in the world. Kindness is free, but it's priceless. ~ Doe Zantamata

Pretty sad state of affairs, all around. The cops I work with - in fact every one of the cops I know - don't want to prevent anyone from protesting peacefully (although many will admit, off the record, to getting really sick of hearing the same chants over and over for hours, LOL).
But, sometimes, some people want to use otherwise peaceful gatherings to break stuff, and then set it on fire.
Damaging property is one thing, but I don't think they take into consideration the fact that vehicle gas tanks can explode when ignited, broken glass can fly around on impact and lodge in people who were uninvolved, and people can get hurt.
It's too bad, really. There are a number of very valid points the protesters are trying to make without torching things (the Falun Dafa, for example, have to be some of the least physically violent protesters I've ever seen, but they're still making their point). Unfortunately, I don't think they will "get heard" because of the idiots who were bent on being s**tdisturbers. Their peaceful protests aren't what will wind up being remembered when people think of the Toronto G20.

Good morning, everyone. I'm back from a mini vacation in the burbs (I live near the "jail", so decided to stay with my folks.
Sounds like everyone is safe & sound (thank heavens!).

My kids had fun counting the police 'buses' (TTC bus filled with cops) and cruisers going back and forth Front St. At some point, my son said "Mommy, car very loud. Noisy!"

As for the protesters, what made me really mad was the fact that they destroyed some mom & pop store fronts. It is one thing to make a point against the big corporation, another to destroy small businesses livelihood.
Told hubby, if any of our kids EVER feel so passionately about a cause, we are going to sponsor and ship them off e.g. feel passionate about AIDS/ Poverty? here is a ticket to Africa and you can volunteer there for a year! Seriously, a lot of these kids need to put their money where their mouths are!
