It also speaks to the character of the old man - He is aware of his budget and lives within it and is not a mooch. If he could not contribute he didn't attend.

I absolutely love this. I hate turning down invitations to things because of finances, but I know it's for the best. And the fact that his dignity was left intact, amazing!

This story made me tear up, that is absolutely wonderful and so sad at the same time. I hope he had a good time at the BBQ. Perhaps you can send him coupons every year so he can keep attending! What a little coupon fairy you are!
