Another new one - Hi I'm "brunt"!

Hi to all,

Been looking at this site for a while for bargains. Came here when I found some Harvey's coupons.

I am a math type (bet you didn't even know that there was an International Mathematical Olympiad, did you?) who graduated from Engineering and am working as a programmer. Barcodes are my specialty for just over the last decade.

Anyways, I have always had a frugal side (paid my own way through university), but it had to kick into overdrive when my dear wife and I encountered a cascading set of problems back in 1998 that forced us to look very seriously at our financial life.

We changed just about everything that we could (sold our house, took a job in the US, moved to Long Island NY, rented a place there) in order to improve the income side. We also attacked the expenses side by ruthlessly cutting everything that we could, and then some more.

I feel that it is important to get past the "saving money by using coupons" stage. Not that there is anything wrong with coupons, I love them myself, but there is just so much more to frugality than just saving a percentage on just a few expenses.

Anyway, I will try to add positively. I like to learn as well. Looking forward to being here.
