They've been doing the Wal-Mart "no weight given" thing on and off for at least a year.

I guess all the stores do it because it works -- people will buy anything if you tell them it's discounted (even if it isn't), or if it's for a limited time only, or limited quantity, or it gives them extra points, or because they're a "VIP", or because they "deserve it", etc. We really need to educate consumers more.

Looks like they removed a few more fake bids on the safeway e-auction this morning. Last night a couple of items (Apple macbook and Sharp TV) were pushing $1000 overbid. Both are back down to reasonable levels. Too bad because both were in contention for the coveted "Palme D'oh" award for biggest $ overpaid of the year.

Although there is still someone who wants to spend 3900 airmiles on the Gardena lawnmower when in all likelihood it will show up on the group buy in less than an hour, for probably less than 1000 airmiles.

You were correct of course--about a 5 minute sellout at 995 AM's. Wonder if the "successful" bidder will get to withdraw his/her bid??? Seems to be the first time that a group buy matched up an item on auction, which shows how ridiculous some of the bids are.

    Possible "Apple" hint for tomorrow:

eAuction Group Buy Hint: All your neighbours will be green with envy.

Gotta be that Softub hottub: http://safewayeauction.ca/iSynApp/au...ctionId=120543

What else can the neighbours see to be jealous of? Unless they're peeking in my kitchen window and spot my shiny new Tassimo 20 on the counter.

On the other hand, would they really want to ship a couple hundred of these beasts all across the country?

They tend not to repeat group buy items, so I don't think the 10 piece greenpan set will come back.

However, they have offered a 9 piece set (love how they count the utensil as a "piece"--but you do need them, because regular utensils will scratch the sh!t out of the surface)...we shall see in 90 minutes

I can state unequivocally that my neighbours really don't care one way or another what hose I use to water my plants.

And a conversation-starting hint for Sunday:

I got this leaflet at Safeway today in Vancouver. Not sure if there's anything new on it but it's a nice summary. There was an info table set up and they were offering to take and recycle your club card. I'll be keeping mine because I may use it again at Safeway in San Francisco when I'm there next.
