I doubt I'd make the 'elite' group. My safeway shopping has been less and less. Poor customer service and crappy air mile offerings have turned me off (not to mention their outrageous prices). What they offer to 'elite' customers doesn't even sound appealing anyway! The manager's cell number? Really? I actually laughed out loud on that one lol!

Cheeky, sounds like you have a crowd for Christmas! I'm jealous
This will be the first year alone for me and my hubby We are going to visit some friends but definitely not the same as having family around! Have a wonderful day and hug your mom!

I called Safeway and they have not made any changes to their elite program. The manager was just being an jerk. If you are elite it will say on your receipt at the bottom that you are an elite customer. Sighs, Safeway I am so close to jumping ship and this is just one more thing to make the teeter totter in the opposite direction...

    Hey Merry Christmas Everyone.
Thanks for all the great posts. I've saved a ton of money through this site. I don't post a lot- but I do check quite often.
As to Safeway, policies and airmiles- I hear a trend going on. Less of Safeway, more of the competition. I've been doing that more myself.
Hope the holidays are good for everyone.

Cancelled my Airmiles credit card today infavour of BMO's Elite Card.

Costs more but includes the trip cancellationl/medical at no extra charge. Also as I'd only paid to renew 2 month's ago they are pro-rating a refund and crediting it to an free extra year's fee. The first year fee was waived regardless so the rep says I'll be getting almost 2 years free.

The card also comes with 30,000 miles/points = $300 to start with.

In the end it's about a $850 savings to me.

    2 year's fee approx. 250 with rebate + $300 points + $300 medical/trip cancellation

I'll still collect Safeway + Shell AMs with the Airmiles only card to use for other items.

Sent the following to Best Western:

Please do not take this as a complaint against Best Western as I have been very pleased with my association with you. However, if you could relay this appropriately to management I'd be most pleased.

For years Best Western has been my first choice. For the last 2 years I have been Platinum . I must inform you due to changes in hotel booking made by Airmiles Canada I will be looking elsewhere first. Previously we could purchase BW Gift Cards through Airmiles. We must now pay Airmiles Canada a $10.50 "Loyalty Fee' to book, have no choice of room, cannot use CAA/AAA or senior discounts and if we have to cancel lose our payment.

As a result, while I have appreciated being a BWRewards member I must liook after my best interests first.

    Sincerely,
I urge you all to indicate your opinions, positive or negative to Safeway, Best Western, Bank of Montreal or where ever you use or collect Airmiles. As I mentioned above, the CSR at BMO indicated they've received a lot of complaints about Airmiles lately. If Airmiles is at risk of losing sponsors because the sponsors' clients are offended then something will happen, If you sit and take it it'll only encourage them to take further advantage of you.

    Off soapbox!

LOL! BW responded positively. The person who responded is someone I've dealt with for years but she didn't realize it was me because I used an alternate email.

We thank you for choosing Best Western Rewards and for your continued loyalty to our brand. If we can be of further assistance please let us know.

    Hey Toni,

    That you!

    How'd you get this one?

You know I think you're the greatest and I hope you have a terrific Christmas. Best CSR at BW!!!!!! Management take notice!

Yes, I wanted to bring this issue to management's attention and how Airmiles has seriously angered a lot of members. In fact, I canceled my Airmiles credit card today at the bank and the CSR told me that they'd received a "ton of complaints" over Airmiles recent changes.

They don't listen to members. Their Facebook page is a joke. They censor most complaints, ignore member entreaties and a lot of the postings come across suspiciously as written by "shills". It's the worst customer service on the planet, unlike BW's which you know I think is the best.

They have gone from being the best loyalty program in Canada to the worst. Unfortunately, as they don't listen or respond to members the members are going to do a backlash against sponsors such as Best Western. BW really needs to step up to the plate and object to their recent changes.

Air Miles is now charging members a fee to use the miles earned. As one of the national consumer television shows "Marketplace" called it, "It's like giving a child a birthday gift while canceling their allowance to pay for it. (BTW, only 2 years ago Airmiles unilaterally devalued everyone's Miles by 25%). Airmiles Canada has created a lot of very angry people here.

you would know if you are an Elite member. There was a day when I went through the tills and siren like bells started going off as I paid. Then the manager came and pulled me aside and told me I was now an Elite member and gave me his card. Never ever seemed to get anything different for being an elite member though so not sure what the purpose was.

About the only value I see this week is the Scope mouthwash if the P&G coupons are still valid.

Yup those are the deals I see too^^ I like scope and the 3D toothpaste... I don't mind spending $2 to get 3 tubes and a bottle. I live for the day when I can get the scope for free tho... LOL that one always costs.... the .17 cents for premium toothpaste is ok.

So, on the toothpaste after a $4.50 coupon and not counting tax you're cost is $0.50 and get $1.05 worth of Airmiles or you're being paid $0.18/tube to shop.
