I don't know, I wasn't saying that! I keep it in containers in the cupboards.
We have a mouse problem, so everything goes into containers. (Though it's been better since we got the cat...) I don't have a big freezer, but I hope to soon.
Gallon glass jars are awesome. My mother & grandmother have a bunch (family used to own a restaurant/ice-cream store). I think Mem used one as a cookie jar... no, that one was bigger than a gallon.Hey, I've been blogging: Nifty Thrifty!

We recycle so many of those gallon glass jars at work all the time and I've been wondering what I can store in them (other than dh's penny collection, lol). I'll definitely be using them for dry cereal and stuff from now on.
And thanks so much for the heads up on the flour sale!~RRLF $0.75 Organic Meadow, $1 Almond Fresh~

I just read online all purpose flour can last 8 months in cabinet if sealed in a container ? How do you know when flour goes bad ? (Wasn't going to buy more but now you've got me thinking)

What if your freezer is full..can you just store it in the fridge?? My basement fridge is half empty! (And I really want the flour, will come in really handy for the xmas holidays baking!)

Flour goes rancid easily, actually anything with natural oils in will go rancid, nuts, oats, flour, etc. It's best to keep them in a fridge or freezer (I have nuts in my fridge that are over year old and they are not rancid). You can tell my tasting... it will have a bitter after taste if it is rancid. Also, to keep out mice / bugs, glass containers with tight lids are the best.

Everything's perishable with time.
I've had oats & flour last nearly a year ... but all-purpose flour, not wheat. I think that spoils faster.
And yeah, you can tell by the smell/taste... and watch for buggies. (I once found a couple ancient boxes of baking mix in my grandmother's pantry... full of little wormies. Eeeew. Either they had no bags, or the bags had been opened. I can't remember exactly, but it wasn't pleasant.)Hey, I've been blogging: Nifty Thrifty!

Those little worms in the flour or mixes are weevil larvae. You can bring them home from the grocery store if you don't check the packaging (rice, pasta and other grain products too!). If you see any kind of web like material on or in the packaging, do not buy it.
Keep the product in sealed containers - plastic or glass - in case you have weevils - they won't spread to other products and you can toss the whole thing if you notice them.

OMG!!! You guys just freak me out!! Now I'm gonna go check everything in my pantry just to be sure there's no bugs!!! My BF is gonna think I went crazy (He already thinks I'm over the top since I got pregnant, what with all the cleaning, sorting and organizing!!) when he come homes later tonight!!!
Good thing I keep all those ice cream container! (Next project on my list, cover the containers so it no longer look like ice cream tub!)
