CBS TV show Sixty Minutes always ended with a commentary from ondant Andy Rooney. Sometimes his opinions got him in trouble.

Today, Andy Rooney died. He was 92. He retired from Sixty Minutes only one month ago.
Wondering if I will be working at 92, the way things are going with the economies.
Anyway, I liked the way he made us question things, and in a funny way.

Oh, gosh - so soon after he retired, but what a ripe old age that is!
Always watched him, even if I didn't watch the full show... crochety, but so endearing.
“I don’t like any music I can’t hum,”
“there are more beauty parlors than there are beauties”
"If dogs could talk, it would take a lot of the fun out of owning one"
But he put things in perspective in his 1,097th and last regularly scheduled “60 Minutes” appearance.
“I’ve done a lot of complaining here,” he said then, “but of all the things I’ve complained about, I can’t complain about my life.”

I think he knew that he was not well, before retiring. He was in hospital after the last show aired.
We did not have cable growing up, so our choices were limited. So we got use to watching Sixty Minutes on Global TV. It became a routine and we couldn't miss watching Andy Rooney.
Once he went on vacation and there were no segments of his taped. Well CBS heard all about that! People complained and asked why there were no Andy Rooney segments that week. I think he pretaped his segments before going on vacation, after that.Last edited by Shwa Girl; Sat, Nov 5th, 2011 at 07:31 PM.

I liked his commentaries and his sense of humor. You are right to say that he said what he liked and didn't care what other's thought of it, and yes good for him. He will be dearly missed.
