What is the best thing we can do right now on this thread and on Smart Canucks?

I know we all want to understand why, how, when, what happened. I think we have thrashed that out plenty, posted some insights and some speculations and some misinformation, but it boils down to a big fat "we don't know" ------ yet.

We are all hurt but the people who had this awful thing happen to people we know and care about. Some of our fellow SCers are hurting now.

Many are well known for their generosity and many acts of kindness not just on Smart Canucks but also within their communities and families. They care and try to make the world a better place.

The fact is some of our speculations are hurting these people - you can see it in the thread above. Let`s stop.

This is a sweet post. BIG HUGS to those affected. I didn't have any points taken. I just feel really upset for the people who did and I'm very angry at SDM for the way they're treating people who had their points stolen.

I would like to see some good come of this, my trust for them is slowly disappearing. Last week I had my SDM pharmisist short me 15 perks, so if an employee can "accidentally" mis count narcotics, I wouldn't put it past one to accidentally mis place a few thousand points and go everyone should have more answers by now.

Is there any harm in contacting the police and asking for advice? I just read this whole thread and I find it SICK that SDM says because someone saw your optimum # that that person is at fault for having their points stolen! Just because someone sees my CC # doesn't give them the right to use it. Someone still pretended to be someone they weren't to take something that isn't theirs! I think SDM is voiding the cards due to trading because they don't want to pay the money back and they don't want negative publicity. People make mistakes, they open themselves up to crimes but they don't deserve to have crimes committed against them. I can't believe that this thief is going to get away with it and that SDM is going to help him/her! Just SICK!

Thank you!! Well said!! This is out right fraud & SDM must have insurance for this kind of thing!! Why should we be punished....I don't consider a RAOK trading!! Its a gift!! My aunt gave me all her points a couple weeks ago because she knew I was going to do the big Mega redemption & it helped bump up my points!

BTW, this is not a petty theft...we all had anywhere from $250 to $1000 or more to redeem products for!!

Just a heads up...tonight I spoke with a woman who used to work for me about 6 years ago. She has worked for Shoppers now for 5 years and her husband has a very high position with the company. According to her, via her husband, there are very few people who have been affected by this, so far...meaning that other people may also have had their accounts comprimised but are unaware of it at this time. The people who have reported the alleged theft will have answers from head office by the end of the week. Each report is being investigated on an individual basis, which is why some people have had a response and some have not. I am not at liberty to share anything further from our conversation at this time. I just wanted those who were awaiting a response to hear what I was told. That's it, I am no longer allowed to post on this thread so I will leave it at that.

Mine was a $250 and a $125 worth at mega redemption. I had about 147,000 points.

I have received no details from SDM. Just that they would get back to me. When I contacted SDM yesterday I was made to feel it was my fault for trading. I shouldn't have said that.... But nothing was ssaid one way or the other.

Jezzebelle I think had the most details. I am not sure if she has any more new info.

If I may add, can we also add support to the person(s) who were wrongly accused (and publicy so) of taking the points? I think they deserve our good thoughts as well as they have had to deal with a barrage of negative and nasty PM's which could only have made them feel like complete and utter garbage, which they didn't deserve.

I may be attacked for this comment, but I thought that lynching was only common practice for the KKK. I also thought I lived in Canada, where we give a person a right to face their accuser, and also to defend themselves. People were happy to accept "free" things from any source, yet were also quick to point fingers at that same source when something went awry.
