My goodness, just read up on it. Good to know, though, that it can be managed well - with time, meds, and diet.

Oh, my! I just read up on it, too...it's very rare, isn't it? Thank God they found it!
And it's reassuring to know that it can be controlled...I'm sure you were thinking the worst (don't all Mothers?), so I hope that even though your son is ill, this news is a little bit of a Christmas present for you, if you know what I mean....Best wishes to your son for a full recovery!

Hi There... the treatment for the disease is Steroids. Steroids aren't always a good thing to be on... they can have serious side effects... anyways, when he was discharged from the hospital he was sent home with a high dose of steroids and every second day he would decrease the amount by 5mg. There are some cases of those with the disease that go into remission after the steroid treatment;hover that was not the case with my son :-( Once he got down to about 10mg. he started getting sick again and ended up in the hospital for a couple of days.
They started again with the steroids at a hig dose and he is now tapering down again every 3rd day..... trying again. He will run out in about 2 weeks. He has a specialist appointment on Feb. 9th in a city 3 hours from us.
So.... hopefully, this time he will be better after the steroids and we get some helpful guidance and direction from the specialist.
I do have this underlying fear about the whole thing.... when he was diagnosed we were told that biopsies would determinne 100% that their diagnosis was accurate..... however, the biopsies did not comeback conclusive. But to date, the doctors say they are still confident that their diagnosis is correct.
I did talk to the family doctor again and he recommended that I request and MRI when we see the specialist, as he said another reason why his eospinophil count would be so high is from cancer, but they looked averywhere and couldn`t see any, but the MRI would show it if there was..... so it is a waiting game.
On the marriage front, my husband and I are getting marriage counselling to work through the issues.
I also have thyroid issues and it recently went out of balance, which really screwed me up... and my brother was diagnosed with a brain tumor this fall that has been difficult to handle too...
sorry ... don't mean to be so depressing... just saying the way it is.
I just went on a 3 months stress leave from work, which has been really stressful as my employers kinda end of hooped and effects alot of people as I am in a position of leadership and managment... oh well... I just keep telling myself that taking care of me and my family are more important than those I work with.
On a more positive note... I hadn't couponned for about 2 months, and although it was a ton of work clipping, clearing expired coupons etc... I got caught up again and paid $50 for $150 worth of product at SOF's the other day.... the stocpile will come in handy now as money flow has decreased dramatically die to the stress leave.
Blessings my friends. Thanks for asking. Live, love, laugh... life is too short not to.... don't take family for granted and HAppy Couponning!!!

Thanks for your honesty, there is nothing wrong with telling it like it is.
I'm sorry that "everything" seems to be happening at once. Life is often
that way.
I'm glad that you can also see some positives too. It may not balance
everything, but at least there are somethings to give thanks for.
All of what I'm telling you I'm saying as much to myself.
May you and the rest of your family know much grace, peace, comfort and love. Also may the Dr(s) be certain in diagnosing your son.
Feel free to post as often as need be, there are many on SC who are here for you.Always remember the What are you thankful for today? thread as there always is something to be thankful for.

I am sorry to hear you and your family have been having it so tough lately. I hope your son's health continues to improve and I hope everything else falls into place for you and your family.
You all will be included in my prayers. And feel free to vent - its great to have a place you can open up and vent when you need to. There is always someone who can lend a shoulder when you need one.
Take care, and hugs. The average dog
is nicer
than the average person.
