I have a full spectrum UV lamp, 10,000 lux. Northern Lights brand, which I didn't see with a quick search. Best $260 I ever spent. Constantly recommend it, and can't believe how many people won't buy one but will spend $1500 on a sunny vacation in Feb every year because they 'feel down' if they don't go. I've had mine... 5 years? 4 years anyway. Still on the original bulb. No sound, lights up the whole room.
Read the paper or have breakfast next to one for half an hour every morning and it makes a real difference in mood. Most people at our latitude have at least mild SAD this time of year, even if it's bright which in my neck of the woods it is not.

Redecorating.
Nothing expensive or major but I start really getting into the design blogs to get inspired to find old pieces on Kijiji etc to add or transform an existing room. It's creative and makes me feel like I'm not sitting here counting down the days til splash pads.
Heck if it was snowing like a proper fluffy snow winter, at the very least I could take my kids tobagganin or sledding and then have hot chocolate. Sigh.

We don't get January blues....except when there is no snow like right now! We ski every Saturday and Sunday until March when the hill closes down. This is a great time of the year for us. We love it!

I hear ya!
Some things I have been doing...
Read positive books! I prefer memoirs that have good, positive, spirit lifting endings!
I find going to the gym gives me more energy and lifts my mood.
I know it's bad, but I tan... once or twice a week usually.
I always make a new year resolution that is easy to work on and keep for the whole year. This year I chose "to use my slow cooker more" so I like to look for new recipes online and stuff.
I also do like a new year clean/ organize. So far I have done my coupon binder, next will be the cupboards, closets, then rooms.
I find when your house is clean and organized and decluttered, you feel a little bit better!Step away from my coupon binder and no one gets hurt.

I absolutely loathe winter and all its dull dreariness, lol. I take Vitamin D supplements, which seem to help a bit......I'm also all about the bright colors. I love the beach and everything associated with it, so winter before last I painted my bedroom a vibrant ocean blue.....have a beach calendar and several small beachy decorations.....along with a brightly colored bedspread. It's my favorite room in the house! lol

Love what you do Speckled28--my sister does the same thing, but in her bathroom.
Carribean blue towels, a picture of a sail boat that she bought on a cruise, etc. She says its her favorite room in the house. Myself I try to get real vitamin D (laying on a beach under the hot tropical sun). It's loads of fun to plan and just think about it and most winters I do get to go.
