One thing you do need to note, moving your fridge. When your condo was built, the fridge was on its own circuit, as mandated by the CEC (canadian electrical code) so if you do move it, you need to ensure the receptacle you put it on is an independant circuit (as in, no other plugs are on the same circuit. Reason being, a fridge is a motor load, and at times will draw more current, so if you have a toaster or something plugged into the same circuit, you are at risk of tripping the circuit breaker, cutting off power, and spoiling you food. Kitchen circuits are very specific in the codebook.

Yes, we had already taken that fact into consideration, and the plug on that wall is on a breaker by itself so it would be fine. My dh thinks it might be to cramped if I put the fridge on that wall though, so it is still up for debate, until tomorrow. Thats when the cabinet maker comes to do the final measurements so there will be no changing after that.

Our cabinet maker was over last night and took the final measurements and is starting to build the boxes for our new cabinets. He said he will install in 2 stages. First he will remove the old cupboards and install the new boxes. Then the second time he comes back, he will install the doors and trim, remove the old counter tops and install the new ones. The granite I wanted at the auction didn't work out because the pieces were all small 4X4 foot pieces. So I've decided to nix that idea altogether, as we need to get moving. My dd's and dh purchased the fridge over the weekend. I was proud of them, they matched the stove with a samsung 3 door fridge, so I'm happy. Pick in #1 post.

Hi there,
I'm new (also disabled) and wishing for a new kitchen. LOVE your deals! Congrats!!!
Just wanted to add that you can often get a deal on granite countertops at *large* granite & marble stores - ask them to show you some pieces that are discounted, and some slabs that have been in stock too long; they will often give a significant discount to move the product in order to make room for new incoming inventory.
Keep an open mind - you never know what you may find. It does require some legwork to get to these places in person, but may be well worth your efforts. In the Toronto area, there are several huge granite/tile stores behind Elte, off Dufferin Street - that's where I went, and the selection and prices were excellent - even the regular priced stuff was *much* cheaper than the Big Box Stores.
I also saw this tip some time ago on one of Steven & Chris's shows on kitchen/bath renovating. I got great deals on granite, slate and ceramic tile when I was shopping years ago, and would definitely go that route again.
If you want to really slash countertop costs, check out IKEA's butcherblock countertops. Insanely inexpensive compared to granite, something to consider for a short-term reno, or even do one section for chopping area, or just visual appeal if you like the look. Easy to upkeep with food grade mineral oil (maybe with a light sanding if desired) once in a while... just an idea...
Good luck hunting!

Thanks Donna, it's been a struggle having to have him work in between my appointments, but he has been great. Today, my son in law delivered my new fridge, so all my new appliances are in with the exception of the microwave that goes over the stove. I just haven't been out to get it and I don't want dh picking it out. I know what I want, a Samsung, so will get it maybe next month. My countertops, granite sink and new faucet should all be done either next week or early the week after, I will post those pictures when it's done. Then last is just the cupboards doors which he is going to start building now. I can't wait till its all finally done, it will look nice and give me so much more storage space.

sorry dear, I wasn't feeling well and have not had access to a computer for a few days, but I am back and I will try to get some pictures up tomorrow. Today I think I am just going to rest a lot, and do a little playing as I have missed everyone.
