I don't actually care that she is diabetic and still creates the same recipes for her show.
Just because she's diabetic doesn't mean her show can only be for diabetics now.
That's like saying every single chef or cook in a restaurant is only allowed to cook what they can eat. Yes, they have to taste, but I doubt that's going to stop someone from their dream.
We've used her recipes before, just changed a bit for our needs. It's just a show after all.

slayer, that's so true about her show and cooking. If someone cooked and ate all the meals Rachael Ray does, that isn't healthy either!
I think it's just the situation with Paula which is ticking people off a bit, that she came forward with the news of the diabetes just when she got an endorsement deal.

I love Paula Deen I think she's hilarious... however, everything does NOT require 2 sticks of butter. I mean seriously, SHE is a riot but I would never go near her recipes although I'm sure they taste like heaven

Its pretty silly. Thats like saying a chef who doesn't eat shellfish shouldn't cook it. I saw this on tv the other day and rolled my eyes. I have type two diabetes. But it doesn't mean I cant make fried chicken if I really want it. Thats like saying a fat person shouldnt sell donuts imo.

I've never watched much Paula Deen but my Dad's wife loves stuff like that. It didn't really bother me until my Dad had a stroke and I talked to his doctor (a family friend) and found out his cholesterol and blood pressure were through the roof and his fasting blood sugar was borderline. Then I got a bit more concerned about Dad's (decidedly unhealthy) diet.
I guess Paula Deen's stuff is okay in "moderation", but for far too many people, the idea of "moderation" is once a day or every other day instead of for rare and special occasions. Sure, "once a day" is less than "every minute of the day" but it goes in the same category of the people who stop at the chip truck after hitting the gym because they earned a treat.
I know and understand that everybody's entitled to eat what they want. I frankly don't have the time or energy to nanny anyone else into making healthy choices, but my beef (deep fried in butter?) is that for many people, TV personalities like her are role models, for better or for worse. Dad fits in that category. He says, well, I learned to cook from the TV. It's better than eating from a box, right? (sometimes yes, sometimes no is what I told him).
Heck, I bet Paula could make a lot of money by doing a show that shows the over-the-top recipe and then the diabetic/heart healthy one right alongside it. There's a show called "Eat, Shrink and Be Merry" (from the same women who do the Looneyspoons cookbook series) that works on this premise.

Well..it seems like now her son, or sons have a new tv show featuring "healthier" versions of Mom's recipes. And the beat goes on......
And to clarify my post, I didn't say that a diabetic isn't allowed to cook unhealthy meals. But to be in the public eye, pushing that bilge onto her audience, some of whom may be gullible enough to think that her way of eating is just peachy-keen, is just wrong. She portrays this woohoo healthy persona, all the while being a smoking diabetic.
(She admitted to Dr Oz that she's a smoker.)Last edited by Lynn49; Fri, Jan 20th, 2012 at 08:12 PM.

to be honest, it doesn't even make any sense jumping all over her.
most ppl with some common sense can see she isn't cooking anything remotely healthy.
she comes across as a total glutton (umm, p**)
if someone wants to follow her diet, good for them, if she wants to continue deluding herself about how her eating habits are ok, good for her.
i don't think popping diabetes pills are going to help her one lick, she'll be on insulin (maybe already is) in no time.
