So it was revealed Paula Deen was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes 3 YEARS ago.

I'm kinda shocked that she continued making that crap she does on tv for all of america for 3 more years before admiting that she has it

and she said she is still going to eat it, such a terrible role model

    What do you think?

She was on Dr. Oz a few months back making 'healthier' versions of some of her favorite recipes. She admitted then that she was a diabetic.

I *love* her, but hate how all of her recipes are soooooo high in fat/calories, etc.

I have been able to modify some of her recipes to be lower in fat.

I am disappointed that she isn't willing to alter her recipes to show healthier alternatives

Aw, it's too bad, of course, but wow - her cooking is all fat; her baking all sugar!
A shame, though, that it's taken her three years to amass the information she needs!

Her son Bobby has a new show with lighter versions of her faves - Cooking Channel's Not My Mama's Meals.

She's the only cook I've ever seen making a breakfast sandwich with two glazed donuts instead of bread!!!!! It had egg and bacon inside. I almost fainted. Who thinks this stuff up? Very bad for her heart.

She was almost a smoker. She admitted that on Dr OZ.

Saddest thing is she has teamed up with a pharmaceutical company to "help" other americans who have diabetes. Maybe she should help by making healthier food.

boiled a lobster in butter?? wow! That would be hard not to burn the butter. And really, IMO, she's just one person, but there are many who seem to not understand what "excess" means.

Pharmaceuticals won't help her or anyone else if they want to eat with excess. Nice way to figure out how to drain more wallets. I really like the Dr. Oz show. Don't get to see it much, but I look at his website. I've found a lot of really good info from him.

Meh, it's called moderation. Man, lobster cooked in butter, that would be so good.......then add bacon.......omnomnomnom.

I mean, yeah, try a recipe, but not every day, I mean, sheesh, I make an awesome cheesecake, but not everyday. Nothing wrong with her show. How much worse could her recipes be from eating at McDonalds, or a sampler platter at Applebee's? At least you know it's homemade!

But the thing is, she promotes eating this stuff pretty much everyday.

As someone with Type 2 diabetes I feel for her because it's not always an easy road and the potential health complications due to Diabetes are not pretty at all. Having said that I must say the following: Is anyone REALLY surprised? You can NOT cook the way she does and eat that food and not walk away with some sort of health issue.

I wish her the best of luck though with it. And btw, I adore Paula Deen, I think she's got the most bubbly personality and I've tried some of her recipes ADAPTED to a diabetic friendly diet and they have been pretty good.

Paula's received a lot of flac for not being forthright and upfront with her diabetes, while continuing to share recipes with her audience that are downright frightening with respect to the amount of fat they have.
I saw a quick story this morning that she's now decided to donate some "SOME" of the money she's receiving as a spokesperson from that pharmaceutical company to the diabetes association. I'm wondering if her generosity has sprung from the negative media attention she's received.

I've lost a great deal of respect for her, I'm sad to say, because I've always loved her up-beat attitude. Although I've never given any thought of preparing any of her recipes, she was fun to watch.

I personally think there are other, more suitable people who qualify to speak for that drug company than her.....perhaps a child who never boiled butter!!
