The largest condom factory in the States burned down. President Obama was awakened at 4 am by the telephone.
"Sorry to bother you at this hour, Sir, but there is an emergency! I've just received word that the Durex factory in Washington has burned to the
ground. It is estimated that the entire USA supply of condoms will be used up by the end of the week."
Obama: "Oh damn! The economy will never be able to cope with all those unwanted babies. We'll be ruined. We'll have to ship some in from Mexico."
Telephone voice says, "Bad idea... The Mexicans will have a field day with this one. We'll be a laughing stock... What about Canada?"
Obama: "Okay, I'll call Stephen Harper and tell him we need five million condoms, ten inches long and three inches thick. That way, they'll continue
to respect us as Americans."
Three days later, a delighted President Obama ran out to open the first of the 10,000 boxes that had just arrived. He found it full of condoms, 10
inches long and 3 inches thick, exactly as requested... All colored with red maple leaves with small writing on each one:
MADE IN CANADA - SIZE: SMALL

Four Irishmen were drinking Guiness and playing poker. Paddie threw down a full house in triumph and then clutched his heart at the excitement, falling dead on the spot. The other three kept playing until Mick remarked, "Should someone tell his wife?" The 3 men voted on who should be the messager and chose Mick, who was the most diplomatic. And, so, at 1 in the morning, Mick knocked at the door of now-widow, rousing her from bed. Confronting the angry woman, Mick decided to break the news slowly. "Ahh, ma'am, I'm sorry to tell you that Paddie was out drinking and playing cards tonight..." She interrupted, "Tell him to drop dead!" Paddy nodded and said "I will."

oh hollyhill, I can totally relate. I have been struggling to keep focus on my thesis over the past while. I met with my advisor yesterday, though, and she gave me some great motivation to get back at it.
She reminded me to not just think about the material at hand, but think about it in terms of what I learned from it and how I could use it to tell a story and teach others. I don't know what you're working on in school, but maybe the perspective of learning so you can share/teach could help to re-frame your work.
Good luck - school blues aren't fun

And to give you a smile, here's my favourite recent movie quote. In the new Sherlock Holmes movie, Holmes describes horses as being "Dangerous at both ends and crafty in the middle." I almost wet my pants laughing as my Grandfather had the exact same feelings about horses.

I would sing but that might make you depressed
So here's a joke my PSW friend heard from a client:
What did the bra say to the top hat? "You go on a head, I'm going to give these two ladies a lift"!
Soft kitty, warm kitty, little ball of fur... happy kitty, sleepy kitty, purr purr purr

Do you have any kids? This always makes me laugh!!
Sleep Training - A Baby's View
OK, here's my situation. My Mommy has had me for almost 7 months. The first few months were great--I cried, she picked me up and fed me, anytime, day or night. Then something happened. Over the last few weeks, she has been trying to STTN (sleep thru the night). At first, I thought it was just a phase, but it is only getting worse. I've talked to other babies, and it seems like it's pretty common after Mommies have had us for around 6 months. Here's the thing: these Mommies don't really need to sleep. It's just a habit. Many of them have had some 30 years to sleep--they just don't need it anymore. So I am implementing a plan. I call it the Crybaby Shuffle.
It goes like this:
Night 1--cry every 3 hours until you get fed. I know, it's hard. It's hard to see your Mommy upset over your crying. Just keep reminding yourself, it's for her own good.
Night 2--cry every 2 hours until you get fed.
Night 3--every hour.
Most Mommies will start to respond more quickly after about 3 nights.
Some Mommies are more alert, and may resist the change longer. These Mommies may stand in your doorway for hours, shhhh-ing. Don't give in. I cannot stress this enough: CONSISTENCY IS KEY!! If you let her STTN (sleep through the night), just once, she will expect it every night. I KNOW IT'S HARD! But she really does not need the sleep, she is just resisting the change. If you have an especially alert Mommy, you can stop crying for about 10 minutes, just long enough for her to go back to bed and start to fall asleep. Then cry again. It WILL eventually work. My Mommy once stayed awake for 10 hours straight, so I know she can do it.
Last night, I cried every hour. You just have to decide to stick to it and just go for it. BE CONSISTENT! I cried for any reason I could come up with.My sleep sack tickled my foot. I felt a wrinkle under the sheet. My mobile made a shadow on the wall. I burped, and it tasted like pears. I hadn't eaten pears since lunch, what's up with that? The cat said "meow". I should know. My Mommy reminds me of this about 20 times a day. LOL. Once I cried just because I liked how it sounded when it echoed on the monitor in the other room. Too hot, too cold, just right--doesn't matter! Keep crying!! It took awhile, but it worked. She fed me at 4am. Tomorrow night, my goal is 3:30am. You need to slowly shorten the interval between feedings in order to reset your Mommies' internal clocks.
P.S. Don't let those rubber things fool you, no matter how long you suck on them, no milk will come out. Trust me.
