    Her b-day is actually tomorrow but sincethe whole family gets together on New Years, we do a party for her with them. Tomorrow she has a birthday playdate at Chuck E Cheeses with her cousin and then we'll treat ourselves to ice cream at Marble Slab...dd gets hers for free thanks to a coupon they emailed me. Awesome!

    So on to the cake: I decided to do a fun cake but keep it light and easy on the "work" side. So I went with a cupcake tear-away cake with vanilla frosting, then covered it over with the fondant "sea" and added my decorations and piping "I turned 3 under the Sea". (there are 12 cupcakes under the "sea")



    Took me about 1.5 hours from start (baking) to finish.

    The Little mermaid icing decorations were half price at Michaels, no coupons with me but good price anyway at under $3 for the 9 pieces. I also picked up some "ready to use" decorator icing, also on half price sale.
    The cupcakes are made with regular Betty Crocker cake mix so that was $0.98 for the box and the frosting was $0.99. I had fondant and extra dcecorator icing left over from my last cake.

    Not bad for $8 OOP- mixed with a lot of love, I'm happy with the result!

    Happy Birthday sweetie! Mommy and Daddy love you soooooo much!

    I took some extra pics and when I have a chance, I'll post the "how to" in the food section. If you're afraid to try a full fondant cake, this is an easy starter.

    Thanks for all the comments everyone. No, kids don't like fondant, some don't even like the icing! LOL. The fondant here is purely for decoration and smooth finish, that whole top can be peeled off or people can just "tear" the cupcake from the bottom, lots of icing is under there so those who like frosting won't be disappointed!
