Hi Ricki! Fancy meeting you here.

This thread is similar to PnP in terms of chatter with answers as an after-thought.

I usually do a recap every night around 9:15pm (except for the rare occasions I actually have a life) which lists all the words for the day, as well as who was quick enough to be first to post (we try to race each other).

    Any questions, just PM me.

also "Clarabell The Clown" on Howdy Doody!!!)

WKBW was the only U.S. station we could get, on an antenna of course!

    KarlB

Rocketship 7 was a children's television series that aired weekday mornings on WKBW-TV in Buffalo, New York from 1962 to 1978 and from 1992 to 1993.

The host of the show was Dave Thomas, who had joined WKBW in 1961. Promo the Robot was the show's other main on-air character. Rocketship 7 featured segments with Thomas and Promo along with cartoons and other short programs such as Davey and Goliath, and Gumby. Thomas left the station in 1978 to join WPVI in Philadelphia, where he assumed the name "Dave Roberts." (He remains at WPVI to this day.) When Roberts left, WKBW canceled Rocketship 7.

When The Commander Tom Show was cancelled in 1991, WKBW decided to continue the "Commander Tom" character of Tom Jolls by reviving Rocketship 7 as a weekly Saturday morning series. Airing at 7 AM, Commander Mike Randall assumed hosting duties for this version of the show with his sidekick, Yeoman Bob (Stilson), with Commander Tom Jolls, Promo the Robot, and Captain Comic (Tim Warchocki) making guest appearances. Bob would always open the show with "Yo!" Cartoons aired included Super Chicken and George of the Jungle. (To keep with the "Rocketship" theme, the station used the term "Planet Earth" as part of the station's mailing address for feedback and contests.)

Rocketship 7 (and with it, the Commander Tom character) were cancelled for good in 1993, as infomercials, public affairs, and educational/informational programming began to dominate the Saturday morning lineup.

You can tell how descriptors have changed as we've entered the age of political correctness...as "historical" reference you mention Eskimos and Indians. I'm sure someone would probably take offense to using the term puppet as well.

I remember Billy Van from the Hillarious House of Frightenstein! (DIG IT!)

But here's one you might NOT remember him from... (or at least you may know it, but didn't know it was him!)

What do the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Titanic have in common?

They both look good until they hit the ice.

It's true that so much has changed. For the best for the most part, but I'm still glad for the day when I got my drivers license, insurance and Mustang all in one day and took off down the road in my V4 302 without having to have a licensed driver beside me. I'm also glad the drinking age was 18 when I got there.

About Uncle Bobby, apparently he couldn't find work after leaving the show and got depressed and became an alcoholic. He used to drive my cousin's school bus to keep in touch with the kids for his show, but I believe that's all he could get for work after the show went off the air. Later, he wrote children's books and retired in Elliot Lake until he passed on in 2007.

Apparently, according to this link - http://12seconds.tv/channel/adelemcalear/95663 - the Uncle Bobby Show file archives are sitting in a barn in northern Ontario rotting away. I guess I'll never see myself on the show -- I never did at the time either because if there were reruns, I didn't catch it.

Lots of great TV memories here and all of them I recall fondly, but nobody has mentioned one of my favourites, The Hilarious House of Frightenstein (until now) ! Another Canadian production that was made right there in Hamilton at CHCH TV's studios. Billy Van starred in many of the character roles and Vincent Price did cameo appearances as himself, introducing some skits and of course his famous closing lines:

If someone could send me a PM with instructions on how to embed these YouTube videos, I'd really appreciate it!
