By comparison, the Old Age Pension of a senior citizen who has contributed to the development of Our Beautiful Big Country during 40 or 50 years, CANNOT receive more than :

A difference of : $16,776.00 per year
Perhaps our seniors should ask for the Status of Refugees instead of applying for Old Age Pension.

Like most of the anti-immigrant or anti-refugee rants that fly around the web, this one is very selective in the information it presents. Robyn, I am sure you are just passing this on after having received it as an email or something similar. Did anyone notice that it only mentions the Old Age Pension, which is non-contributory, and not the Canada Pension Plan? Not that either of those is enough to live comfortably, but a selective comparison nevertheless. Keep in mind that, although there is abuse in all government programs, refugee assistance is intended for people who are coming from situations that most of us cannot even begin to imagine. $28,920.00 in annual income is hardly a free ride. If we close our doors and our hearts to the rest of the world, what have we become?

The legendary singer spoke with (the Sun / QMI Agency) just minutes ago to debunk the false rumours, tweets and even bogus media reports this afternoon that claimed he’d died today.
“I’m fine, thank you — the whole thing’s a joke,” said Lightfoot, 72, on the phone Thursday just after 3 p.m. EST from his Toronto-based office, Early Morning Productions.
“I don’t know how it came about at all. The whole thing is a hoax. I’m in great health. I’m doing fine. I’m running around right now, doing my errands.”

I say we hunt down the twit responsible for the original Twitter post, drag him through Nathan Phillips Square, beat him senseless, then string him up by his lower extremeties. I truly feel sorry for people with nothing better to do than start sh*t like this. How empty is their life that they need the attention that comes from being able to say "Look how many people I just got to believe that"? I pity them the same way I pity losers who create computer viruses. All those brains, and they can't use them for something productive. How proud their parents must be.
