Quincy needed a med-collar for a week because he would not stop chewing down there and I have seen spayed cats completely open their incisions and you see insides sticking out (sorry for the visual there) while other cats are not bothered

Weird that they just wouldn't do both surgeries at the same time... *shrug* hopefully they will able to do that for you, and for your little gal so she doesn't need to go under a 2nd time!

We have a male kitten who's not quite 6 months yet, and every vet we've called in NS will not neuter him until he's 6 months old, and they all have said we have to get his shots with that (we don't believe in getting cat their shots when they NEVER go outside, waste of time and money). We have only found one vet who will do it, and even started a file for us stating that our cat is not to get any needles with his neuter! We were very happy with their service, and they even offer military discounts...

As for declawing, totally your decision! Don't let anybody try and talk you out of it, only you know what's best for your kitty friend! Personally, I would probably get it done too, it's just a really hard decision to make (our couch looks like Freddy Kruger jumped out of it, and the kitten sometimes scratches DS when they play), so it's definately been a topic of conversation but nothing set in stone. But again, do what you gotta do and don't let those haters try and bully you!

My cat has a collar, I like to know where she is, she's the sneaky type It's also reassuring since she does try to escape and that displeases me greatly

I typically do get shots but not yearly, but although mine don't go outside, I could bring something into them (plus once we had a cop here taking a statement and Autumn scratched him and he threatened to have her PTS, thankfully because she had an up to date rabies vaccine all they could do was quarantine her for 10 days)

I used to use a collar on Quincy for the same reason until I seen a cat come into the shelter who got stuck on hers (and it was a breakaway collar) she broke her jaw and leg trying to get it off and then chewed it and her skin off to get out of it

I don't even put collars on them when we go to the vet anymore, they are microchipped

yikes FP that sounds awful-was the cat ok after all that? I hope so. I have a collar on my kitty but he doesn't ever do anything but sleep now so it seems to be ok but I do know about the dangers of collars on cats. it's good to have on him when he is hiding and then we can hear his bell jingling and can find him. lol it isn't so much that he hides on purpose but he has several favorite spots to sleep. lol

Ya here they HAVE to have valid rabies shots for the vets to do anything, I got all our cats their boosters and shots. We had a cat pass from a disease there was a shot for and could of been prevented. Lesson learned.

collar, I thought u meant like a funnel collar? I was confused.

Our kitties dont have collars as they are indoor cats BUT they are microchipped.

I think they did mean a funnel collar but it turned into a regular collar, and the cat lived but the tissue never grew back where she chewed it off and the skin was scared that she doesn't grow long fur back there

lol yes I did mean a funnel collar but it sort of turned into a conversation about regular collars so I just followed the conversation. here there is no law about cats having shots as far as I know. the vet we go to has never even asked if we want to give him shots. we haven't but I am not sure why because it would be good for him to be up to date with that. awhile back we had a stray cat show up and she didn't look so good and we think she had something wrong with her but she left again. we were concerned for Felix's safety if she stuck around. but she didn't.

also is likely my history with having kitties that should/would have been somewhere else - condo kitty for 14 years, (no claws), my dad
takes to the school house, and treats like the cat he knows,
'what to go out, sure,,,'
or the cat i have now from a shelter, who when she was washing
herself, yesterday, nibbled at where her claws would be.
guessing i think of the 'what if' so,,,,
