I felt like I need to make a post to acknowledge the life of my grandfather. He just turned 90 years old last month then his health went down hill extremely fast. He has a chest infection and they don't think he will make it through the weekend since he can't eat or drink. He has a living will with the specifications for no life prolonging measures including IV nutrition and breathing machines.
When I was a child, I had quite a few grandparents and great grandparents. Slowly, they passed over the years. My grandpa is my last grandparent and it is especially hard because I was raised by my father with no mother in my life. My grandpa is my fathers dad so I saw him a lot although we were not overly close until he mellowed with age. I need to remember that he had a full life of 90 years and it is his time. He lived a fairly full and healthy life although he lost his wife to cancer 20 years ago. I hope he can be with her in some capacity now. I am not a religious person but I believe there is something waiting for us and I take comfort in that.
I only hope he passes in peace. I love you Donald SinclairThis thread is currently associated with: N/A

Sorry to hear about your Grandfather. Even though he had 90 good years it somehow doesn't seem like enough.

My thoughts are with you.
LF: Chapman's ice cream and Dare coupons. DS has a peanut allergy so it's the ONLY ones we buy. Lots FT.

My dear Mother passed away at age 92, and I recall just cringing when some people felt they had to remind me what a long and wonderful life she led...I didn't CARE...all I knew is that my Mom died and they weren't any comfort to me at all. I've had her longer...shouldn't that have counted for something?!
Your grandfather did live a long life, but nothing prepares us for the loss of someone so dear to us. You had many years to be with him, but that still doesn't prepare you for his ultimate demise....it'll hurt your heart just the same.
It's going to hurt...really hurt for a while, but little by little you'll be able to remember him with a smile...remembering better times with him and yes..he will be united with his dear wife, and one day you'll see him again...of this I have no doubt.
I'm sorry he's ill and may be leaving you and your family....my thoughts are with you at this time, Hon...

I received word that he is still holding on. Part of me wishes he would pass so he is no longer suffering even though it will be hard.

aw, sweetnlow30 this is so sad for you. Sure hope he will not suffer long, if it has to be his time. Like Lynn said, no matter how many years parents, grandparents are with us, it never cushions the blow when they leave us. I am sending warm hugs out to you. Take care.

You don't have to be a religious person to feel spiritual. Nice that the men in your life were role models who contributed to your fine character. It is never easy to say goodbye to the people we love & cherish so much, but we can take comfort in the sureness of love that they leave us with.
Bless him always & forever.
