Thread: Boyfriend is slacking

Thu, Apr 26th, 2012, 03:29 AM #1
Today was my 4 year anniversary with my boyfriend, maybe I'm over-reacting but I'm pretty ticked off. I let him sleep in, made him breakfast (omelettes and pancakes), bought him tanning minutes to help with his skin condition (he has psorasis) and took him out to the casino.
When I said Happy Anniversary!! He didnt say anything, and STILL hasnt said anything, and I didnt get anything from him.
I know its not about gifts, but not even a happy anniversaryThis thread is currently associated with: N/A

Awwww first off happy anniversary! And second, maybe you should talk to him about it? Like I would say listen, I am not expecting a gift but a simple Happy Anniversary I should get! Or at least a card. I hate to say it but sometimes men forget things or they don't understand how it is important to you. Sometimes you have to "lead the horse to water so they can drink" in this case get the hint. Or maybe he has something planned you don't know about yet? You never know.

He's probably forgotten and is embarrassed now. Men find anniversaries important, but not as important as we do. They just don't think the same way! I've been married for 23 years now and have all boys who are teenagers now (3). They just don't think the same.

Men just get too comfortable & forget these things...tell him to take you out for dinner to make up for it!

Happy Anniversary! Voice your frustration clearly, and explain how hurt you are.
Even still, some guys lack the common sense gene (my bf included)!
So spoil yourself! Bubble bath, shopping trip, manicure, or whatever makes you happy!

Happy Anniversary!!! I have been married a very, very long time 31 years, and my dh has never forgotten and anniversary, birthday 5 dd's birthdays or even one of our grandchildrens birthdays. In fact he sometimes has to remind me
I think though that I am probably the exception to the rule. I have a few SIL's that forget. I truely think they get embarrased when this happens. Next year, start dropping hints about 2 weeks before
We all need a little sunshine every now and then

Sorry to hear that! I have to echo the sentiments of the other folks here, you have to be a direct.
All men have something that just doesn't trigger, speaking as one myself. While I can remember dates of important things like anniversaries, I regularly forget things like take out the garbage on Sunday nights, but not in the summer because raccoons are out, in which case do it Monday morning. It's not malicious. And that goes for a lot of household chores. I know it aggravates my poor lady when I forget and need a reminder.
Our solution was to program it into my cell phone so it sends me a reminder to do it. Same with stuff like scooping cat litter daily, and the rest of the things I am supposed to do, but forget to do.
This is where you need to (bluntly) come up with a solution and ensure he knows how important these days are to you. I say bluntly because men will never pick up what you're putting down otherwise. I realized young that anniversaries and Valentine's and what not typically meant more to girls than it did guys, so I've always gone overboard to buy extra brownie points.
I know it's aggravating for you to have to map it out - but the end result will be far better than hoping he just figures it out. Communicate, communicate, communicate.
Good luck!

I would say something like So what are you planning for us this weekend to celebrate....And if he still doesn't answer hide the tv remotes (lol) or unplug the cable/satelitte wires (awful I know but then he's surely want to do something).
2019 is the year that we continue to save before we buy!!!
