Watery gray sky remains this morning. Guess there'll be some rain before farmer's market open in afternoon.
Rather hoping residents in town have taken note of the rain and turned their automated sprinklers off even if the calendar says their side of the road can water the lawn.

Well my Peonies finally poppped, seems like overnight! and of course they did it before I could get them tied up with stakes so they've all flopped over!! Damn I love the flowers, but I hate that they get so heavy! And I can't stand the look of the Peony cages. Im gonna have to see if I can salvage them tonight.

Dug up a huge hosta...I had to do it. It was way too big for the garden and it was totally crowding out other plants, and I had no where else to put it so i had to discard it.:o( I hate doing that.

I have the same problem with my hydrangeas but this year I put cages around them and even with that rain yesterday, 60mm, they are standing strong. Normally I would be crying because they would be all flopped over .

To cut down on the maintenance, I decided to landscape the front of the house with evergreens instead of the usual lawn & garden. Big mistake. I so miss the flowers, & believe me, it's just as much work.

Since you are all rock-stars when it comes to plants, does anyone know what this little tree-like plant is? I'd like to learn a little more about it since its kind of the focal point of my front flower bed.

It's quite possibly a walker weeping siberian pea shrub.. does it have little yellow flowers on it like this one?

could it be a teacup rose bush? Are there thornes on the stems? They'd be teenytiny.
Scratch that...rose leaves are more spikey on the sides and aren't that rounded.

Had a visitor yesterday, sadly bees are few and far between here. Usually I am dodging and ducking them.

    Something is very wrong

We haven't seen many bees here either. So sad.
A pesticide called neonicotinoid might be to be blamed. "The pesticide-laced dust kicked up by the tractor and seed planter are responsible for the dead bees. And those not killed by ingesting or carrying the dust back to the hive are at risk of eating pollen that is infused with the pesticide.Neonicotinoid (or neonic) protects the plant from being eaten by wireworms, white grubs and other pests.

On another note my peonies did great this year. I put in 3 poles that I bought at Dollaramma and used a coiled wire that had a soft sleeve over it (alsom from Dollaramma)to protect the plant. I just wrapped that around the plant gently and it stayed upright. I did the same to my
larkspur delphinium that are just beginning to flower. We'll see how it does for them.

also don't forget we had a pretty cool soggy spring, which will also effect the population of bee's and such.
