For the past 2 months now, I wake up around 5 Am super queezy and needing to throw up (no I am not pregnant). I try to go back to sleep but I feel so sick if I try to lie back down. I also feel like I keep having to pee. I also have the runs and feel quite ill the first half of the day. I have had blood tests done, urine tests, tested for diabetes, stool tests...no answers. I have lost a lot of weight too. I go for an ultrasound in a couple of weeks. I am losing my mind. I do suffer from depression and anxiety so I don't know if this is what is causing it. Does anyone else experience this? I am going crazy because of it.

Oh, so sorry to hear this... such a cluster of symptoms...
Are you on medications for the depression; could it be side effects?
Just hoping you get some answers soon.

Yes I am on medications but it has been the same one for years so I don't think that would be causing it. I had cancerous cells removed in Feb from my cervix but I don't think that is what has caused it either.

Aw, Tink, I'm so sorry you're having to deal with this....do you sleep well at night? Do you cut out liquids at a certain time each night? What, exactly, do you eat or nibble on in the evenings? Do you take meds later than you should?
There could be lots of reasons for waking up feeling that sick...none of which are scary....I feel that way when my B12 is way down...have you been checked for anemia? ie: how's your B12?
Whatever it is, I hope your doc gets to the bottom of it quickly and that you'll have a clean bill or health very soon!

Have you been checked for a hietis (hy-a-tis) sp??? hernia - or acid reflux? That's the only thing that I can think of.

I have all the symptoms of Acid reflex except the main one which is heartburn so I don't think it's that.

Thank you everyone for your advice. I don't eat late at night and my diet is normally very healthy. I am on meds that could be causing it but I have been in them for years. I think the fact that I have bad anxiety could be a factor too.

I'm so sorry to hear you aren't feeling well. I don't know if the answer will be the same, but your problem sure sounds familiar.
Two summers ago I had similar symptoms... well, the nausea and queasiness mostly. That was accompanied by fatigue and on-and-off stomach problems. All of the symptoms would appear throughout the day and then go away just as mysteriously. At first, I bought a pregnancy test (negative), and then I started looking for things that could be causing all those different things in my body. The eventual culprit? My ears. I had severe middle ear inflammation and a mild infection that hadn't caused any pain, but was definitely affecting me. Ear problems affect your balance, causing dizziness and nausea. Your ears also drain into your esophagus and can cause stomach upset and vomiting (for me they do!), although maybe not the other gastro problems... although a constantly upset tummy could be causing other gastro symptoms. Are you a restless sleeper before you get up? I start tossing and turning about an hour or so before I get out of bed... if there is a problem with your ears, tossing and turning a lot could trigger it as your body tries to compensate for your ears making you feel like you're doing barrel rolls instead of just squirming in your sleep.
It could be food-related; to rule out that possibility, I would recommend doing an elimination diet. Elimination diets stink for the first few weeks, but after that time, you'll know if it's anything food-related. I also agree with lecale that watching the timing of meals might help.
I don't know if any of this will help, but asking your doc to look into your ears takes 2 seconds and could rule out a possible culprit. Good luck!!

I have allergies and post-nasal drip. It starts anytime after 3am, usually when I'm waking from an urge to pee. I cough and retch and sometimes vomit or get very close to it. I've been told I'm having reflux even though I have no heart burn, and the post-nasal drip is a contributing factor to the nausea. For now I'm not being treated for the reflux, but have this medication to take for the allergies, which I just haven't tried yet. The urinary frequency. I was previously diagnosed with interstitial cystitis. Many who have this also have irritable bowel syndrome but I don't seem to. Medications are a funny thing. I know one medication i was tried on for the IC cause severe IBS symptoms and I basically was out of comission from wake or earlier till noon every morning. Once I stopped the medication, I returned to normal.
My only advice is to talk to a medical care provider about it. Yes, anxiety can cause symptoms like this but sometimes it's not just that.
Right now I'm up at 3am with nausea and cramps because i have lactose intolerance and had too much cheese for snack. I took lactaid but obviously not enough.

It's amazing how many people are experiencing the same thing as me and don't know what it is either. I ended up in hospital yesterday because it has come to the point that I am barely able to look after my family or go to work. I have lost 10lbs in 2 weeks and barely have any energy. The hospital did more bloodwork, and of course it all came back normal. I keep insisting that I want more tests done but I have to wait to get an ultrasound and see a stomach specialist. The doctors say they don't know what it is so there is nothing they can do. My family members think it is my depression and anxiety causing this but it is being so sick that has made me more depressed I think.

Oh, I sure hope they get down to the bottom of this soon. In the mean time, think about what it is you can do for yourself. I know sick feeling makes you not want to eat but not eating can cause your lytes, blood sugar... to drop and you can feel even more stressed, depressed, lack energy... and even add to the nausea feeling. I'm in the desperate need to gain weight situation and though I can't help you with your issues, here are some things that are helping me.
-gravol, even just half at a time- if i can get rid of the sick feeling, i can manage to eat some
-don't focus on meals, focus on eating just a tad every hour or two
-focus on favorite foods- in the end, if you're not eating much of anything, try foods that you like best because they will be greater motivators
-eliminate as much stress as you can by delegating, asking for help with certain things and if you can afford it, pay someone (housekeeping for the week, making meals, babysitting). Kids can learn to pair up and fold socks, set the table, gather dirty laundry... little chores tailored to their age...
-Saving money is great but sometimes, you just need to spend a little more to take the load off- prepared foods, muffin mix, buying made muffins...
-Set asside some time in the day to do something just for you that helps with relaxation and makes you laugh- watch a funny movie, take a relaxing bath...
-Ensure you are doing the best you can to deal with other medical issues- if you're low in iron or B12, constipation... If you have a social worker for mental health, talking to someone might not fix your belly but if it can help you feel supported and offer you a few more tools to deal with declining mood with declining health, do what you have to do.
-Deal only with the important issues that need to be dealt with- this is no time to decide to do spring cleaning or add any other stress or just tasks that need to be done.
I know when i have poor nutrition because I don't feel well, I feel more easily overwhelmed, adding to stress, feeding the trouble eating... If you have to, try ensure- store brands are cheaper. Add calories every where you can- margarine or butter on toast or crackers, peanut butter (peanut butter banana smoothies), set some basic rules (ie: if I will miss a meal (6 meals is ideal), I need to eat at least ___ crackers, or a glass of milk, or an ensure...).
One step at a time. Don't get discouraged, just do the best you can to help yourself till they can figure out the mystery or it resolves itself. Focus on what you do eat, not what you don't eat. Don't weigh yourself too often, just focus on getting food and fluids in. Focus on realistic goals for yourself for right now, not on what you didn't get done... No matter the cause, wellness is a process that involves all kinds of things that affect all aspects of your life- physical, mental, spiritual, social...

I have a similar problem.
I have had my gallbladder out, I have fatty liver, I have IBS, IBD, allergies, celiacs, lactose intolerant, and abnormal cell development in my stomach from an infection.
Have you been for an endoscopy? Its painless and pretty easy to go for. I would suggest one because I had an infection back 10+ yrs ago, I didn't know and now I got major problems. Anything abnormal needs to be checked out, until they know what it could be. Take care!
Also, if you cant eat solids, buy some ensure drinks. They got great vitamins and take the place of a meal.Last edited by gameprogirl; Mon, Jun 11th, 2012 at 11:13 AM.
