Thread: How much do you pay for cheese?

I just move back to Ontario from BC and can not believe how cheap brick cheese is. A 700 grm brick can be found for under $5 at most grocery stores ( Zehrs, food basics, sobeys, wallmart) When I lived in BC cheese was $11.49 for med or mild and $12.49 plus for old.
I have seen it as low as $4.50 here and people say it gets cheaper when its on sale. Of course you can find it more expensive on the same shelf, but its just a different name and that will parobally be on sale the following week. LOL
How much do you pay forcheese and where (store and city or province)

It is usually 7.00 + here, when not on sale (this is the no name stuff at loblaws).. But Maxi puts it on sale for 3.99 sometimes. Just like No Frills when I was in Ontario
I just buy a bunch when they are on sale (checking the best before date!)
$12.49 is CRAZY!! I think I would stop eating cheese

idk know if Ontario is a cheese making province, I think Manitoba has the best cheese and farmers sausage.. I wonder if maybe that has something to do with it -- maybe ON makes its own cheese but others do not??? a shot in the dark, but possible.

Ontario does have small family-owned cheese makers, but most of the Canadian cheese is made in Montreal

The cheese I am mainly referring to is Cracker barrel, Kraft, Black Diamond etc. You would think the price would be the same across the country

I live in SW Ontario and I don't have any stores where the reg price for 700gr is under $5. I buy the 520g blocks, the regular price is around $6-$8 dollars. But I will only buy Sobey's brand now because they make cheddar without orange dye in it. They had it on sale in February for $3.99 - the name brand stuff typically goes on sale for $4.44 (but I don't buy it because it's orange). Hopefully it will be on sale again soon, as I'm almost through my last block - we go through about 5 a month.

I pay nothing for cheese. I'm still working on my Kraft Live Active cheese.
When I don't have coupons for free cheese I just go without until it's on sale for $4 or less.
