I was asked a similar question yesterday and I thought it was a great one, so I am asking all of you.. SEE POST #23 FOR RESULTS

Here are the two questions. (assume variables like gas, distance, time etc. are not a factor)

You have a $2 off coupon and Store A has the item priced at $1.99 and Store B has it priced at $2.19.

Question 1) If you are only purchasing that one item Which Store would you use it at? (A or B)

Question 2) If you had 9 other purchases (with no coupons), Which Store would you use your coupon at? (A or B)

    Example answer: 1B, 2A

If you chose 1B, or 2B, feel free to provide a quick explaination (if you want). Thanks guys!!

My answer to both questions would be it depends on how close the store is!

I've never had a problem using a $2 coupon on something that is $1.99 (the cashier just always adjusts the price), so if that store was closer than yes I'd go to the lowest priced store.

Otherwise I wouldn't drive out of my way, if the $2.19 store was closer I'd go there.

$0.20 savings isn't worth wasting gas or my time. IMHO.

Good point, but distance (in my question) is not a factor.

Distance is always a factor for me! lol. But, if distance and other factors (ie, which store I liked better, rewards program, etc) didn't apply, then I'd go to store A ($1.99).

Yes, I know distance (time, gas, one-stop, etc.) are very important factors. My question is purely hypothetical, eliminating all the variables.

    I for one would answer

    1B, 2A

Reason being, I would want to avoid any hassles of having my coupon priced higher than the item. If I have other items, I find the $0.01 overpriced coupon doesnt get questioned.

I as well usually try to avoid the hassle, if it's only a few cents difference i'll pay the few cents

I too will avoid the hassle. So I'd go with the bit higher and pay a few cents.

I'll have to agree, I dislike hassle. Most of the time distance and convenience is a huge thing for me (don't drive), i mostly shop at SDM and Metro only.
Did you see the pool? They flipped the B!tch!

    B for both.

I see coupons as cents-off the price of an item, to lower the price.

1B, 2A, but I would avoid the 1B scenario unless I wanted the item right now.

I find four or five items usually enough to distract from a $2 coupon/$1.99 item.

    1) i would purchase it at the $1.99 if it stated that tax is included in the price if not I would go to b

    2) i always calculate the gas consumption on my trips and factor that in when i go out it's a complete mission and I don't want to waste one penny

on a side note to question 2 I would never have 9 other items that didn't require a coupon unless they were fruits, veggies or meat lol

Whichever is closest. However, given that I have only had a problem once with a store refusing to adjust a coupon down*, I would likely use it at store A.

( * = One SDM only....I use a different SDM now that is the same distance from my house as the other.)
