Thread: Not a shopping rant, a family one...
-

Ok, so let me start with I rarely rant online. But this is crazy! So I came home today after school, and my job, and immediately got bombarded with "Set the table, clean up the bathroom, did you buy some toilet paper, when is that thing due".
It just gets old you know~ I seriously can't wait 'till I move out, I swear at times the only thing keeping me going is my couponing! So I can save up enough to move out SOON!
Does anyone else feel like that sometimes? I'm a student so I'm always ready to snap {Because of stress and other things} but I would never just bombarded someone the second they walk into the room! And this is a daily occurrence too, once in a while it's ok, even normal!
Can't wait until I move out!

Oh frugalista, yes that can be so stressful. After a hard day of work and school sometimes you just want to hear stuff like "how is your day" as it makes all the difference. Sometimes we are so exhausted but we have to start doing "work" at home too after a heavy workload already. I feel your frustration!
Just take a breather, do what they ask then grab a large bin of ice cream and pig out..
Everytime you like my post I give the dog in my display picture a big *KISS!*

When i lived at home with my parents, my mom and i would be non stop fighting, all the time. She liked things done her way, i liked things done my way.
When i moved out at 21, it was the best decision i ever made.
Moved into a small 1 bedroom apartment with my boyfriend and my relationship with my parents got waaaaaaaaaaaaay better
Dont worry it time it'll all work out

My mother still treats me like an irresponsible child and I'm in my 40's.
Whenever she comes to visit, it's have you done this, bought that, cleaned the other...
Deep breaths...is there any place you can stress out before returning home? even a 5 min breather can turn a budding b!tchfest into something more calm as you are relaxed.
Short answer : no Long answer : NOOOOOOOOOOO!

Well.....I used to be like that but now I have reached a point in life where I understand why my parent did what they did. Wait till you do it to your kids...you will understand. Life itself is tough so don't sweat the little stuff.

Having raised 5 dd's of my own, I can feel for you in some ways. When my kids came home from school, I would want to know about their day, although I never gave them orders to start doing chores. Going to school and getting good grades was always more important to me than getting them to help me with some meanial chore like setting the table.
I would think that your mom probably just wants to have a conversation with you, but has become so robotic about doing things this way that she can't actually see what she is doing to you. If you could find it in your heart to sit down with her, in the evening after dinner, dishes and so on are all done and have a chat with her.
We just assume that people know what we are feeling, and a lot of times we're wrong. I believe that it may help.
The very best thing any parent can do is ALWAYS keep the lines of communication open.Last edited by hollyquaiscer; Fri, Jun 15th, 2012 at 08:09 AM. Reason: spelling

Oh my dear, poor you! Sometimes family memebers don't realize how much pressure they put on others. I would communicate as well with them. Tell them how you feel. Your a student and have your own stresses! You should not be worrying about cleaning up a bathroom or setting the table? AND not have to worry about buying toilet paper! I don't know, maybe it was how I was raised, but the main job for me was to get my education and to focus on that. Yes, i helped out around the house, but still you need to focus on your studies. More important than the things people are asking you to do!

My mom was the exact same way u use to HATE her. Because she worked night shift on days I didn't have school she would write down lists of chores to do. I'm married now almost 8yrs and she's my best friend. When she comes over she use to still run down a list asking if i did this or that and it use to annoy the heck out of no matter if i spent a whole day cleaning she would find something that i missed and she would go do it herself and hoe]w that use to annoy me...well now i just let it go if she wants to comes over and clean the whole house top to bottom i just let her do it she dosent complain...the only time it annoys me is when i have ppl over but oh well everyone knows shes not able to sit and enjoy herself...maybe ill get lucky on sunday
