Thread: Campaign for Harassed Bus Monitor Karen Klein Skyrockets!
-
Fri, Jun 22nd, 2012, 10:01 PM #1
I am behind in the news, clearly, because I only just heard about the viral video of a group of teenaged boys mercilessly tormenting 68 year old bus monitor Karen Klein. One kind soul (a Canadian, I am proud to say, named Max S.) took it upon himself to try to do something kind for her by setting up an online campaign to bring attention to what happened to her, and to try to raise $5000 so she could do something nice for herself, like take a holiday.
Just look at how this campaign has skyrocketed! I love that it has exceeded everyone's expectations! I made a small donation about an hour ago, and since that time the pot has increased by leaps and bounds.

It's wonderful that something good is going to come from this ordeal.
(And for the record, I hope those little brats were expelled). This thread is currently associated with: N/ALast edited by TrueNorthTreasures; Fri, Jun 22nd, 2012 at 10:09 PM.

...and someone has established a campaign for Max Sidorov, to pay it forward! Kind of nice!

It would be nice if she donates a part of the money to a sucide help-line in memory of her son or to an anti-bullying campaign.
Short answer : no Long answer : NOOOOOOOOOOO!

I read somewhere that if she accepts the full amount she could be taxed for up to 50% of it They were saying she would be further ahead to only take a portion of the money for her trip etc and then either donate the rest or turn it back over to the people who donated since the only people benefiting from that much being raised is NY because they will get to tax her to death.

Fortunately, this was posted on the fundraising web page yesterday:
Max Sidorov posted an announcement 20 hours ago
Oh and by the way, Karen does not have to pay any tax on these donations. Woo hoo!

This is the first I've heard of this story (I've been taking a break from the news after the Magnotta thing.) I think this is absolutely wonderful that people are doing this for her! Most of us know what it's like to be bullied, so I think that's why this is touching so many people.
I'm also really glad that the videos are out there because the kids are being held accountable for what they did. Hopefully they'll learn that their behaviour was not cool and this will contribute to other kids making positive choices.

I think they will feel really bad about this when they get older, even if they don't now. When I was younger I never said anything bad to adults, but I said a lot of really mean things to other kids and now when I think about it it makes me feel bad.
