Sad news that Dame Edna ( Barry Humphries ) has passed on at the age of 89. His passing leaves yet another empty spot in the hearts of fans who appreciated his style of comedy.
Australian entertainer Barry Humphries, best known for his comic character Dame Edna Everage, has died aged 89.
The star had been in hospital in Sydney after suffering complications following hip surgery in March. He had a fall in February.
Humphries' most famous creation became a hit in the UK in the 1970s and landed her own TV chat show, the Dame Edna Everage Experience, in the late 1980s.
His other personas included the lecherous drunk Sir Les Patterson.
In a statement, his family remembered him as "completely himself until the very end, never losing his brilliant mind, his unique wit and generosity of spirit".
They said Humphries' fans were "precious to him", and said his characters, "which brought laughter to millions, will live on".

I only JUST heard about Gordon Lightfoots' passing this morning and didn't want to believe it since false reports had surfaced in the past of his death that were untrue. Another treasured Canadian icon gone. I also learned that Tim Bachman had passed the other day at just 71 years old. His brother Randy had confirmed his death.
Petr Klima has passed away at just 58 years old. The NHL world ( and the Edmonton Oilers ) will be saddened by this news. Known for scoring the O.T. winning goal for the Oilers in Game 1 of the Stanley Cup final against Boston....and it was after a triple overtime! No cause of death has been released as yet, although complications from diabetes seems to be a possibility.
