Both my husband and son have had the best luck at Marks Work Wearhouse. They both need comfy ones, as well as sturdy ones - and that's been the best place overall. Prices can seem steep, but sometimes with a sale, combined with the $ off coupons that sometimes come with their flyer, it sure helps.
Husband recently bought safety runners there (they are called something else!) - they were down from 100 to 70, we had a $20 giftcard, plus a $10 when you spend $50, so they were a great deal.

    Men or women's work boots?
    Any special features needed?
What's more important, price or quality?

^Great advice, Natalka. If you need to wear them for long periods of time, I would get a well-made pair...make sure they fit properly, that's the key. You want to be comfortable when you're working. I think second hand wouldn't be good in this case, unless they are like-new. Check for sales; Mark's has a coupon offer just about every month.

    Marks is ok. But...
if you are working with concrete you would likely want cheap, because lime will kill boots faster than you can ever break them in.
if you are welding then redwing has boots that last way longer than most and fit well, but are very expensive.
if you are looking for woman's boots, that walmart has some of the best fitting and best selection. But marks will most likely cater to specialty boots at the most reasonable price.
    I think it really depends.

Walmart had decent ones on sale recently, don't know if they are still on sale but they were reg $90 and on sale for $35 at both stores near me and the one in the next city despite not being in the flyer

Zellers sell a couple of brands, you may find them in their clearance
Make an easy $20+ per month with Swagbucks - watch videos, search, play games & get paid!

I agree with Natalka about checking out Marks. Sometimes they have amazing clearance prices. Is there an outlet near you?

I remember getting DH 3 pairs of boots for $40 each ($110 marked down to $40 at one of the outlets). They were by far the best boots! They lasted longer than most he buys (I think each lasted a year instead of the average 6-8 months that seems more normal).

I dont know about women's boots or how often you need them but for men's and if you're going to be in them a lot, I'd get a good pair. WM's (mens at least) always seem so cheaply made.

Oh and make sure they have everything you need, here's a link to the workboot symbols and what they mean: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steel-toe_boot
