I picked up a loaf of "Chalet" whole wheat bread from the Dollarama the other day for $1.00. It felt very fresh and soft so I decided to try it. Wow, the bread is actually really good and very fresh. It is less dense and fluffier than Dempsters so it could tear if you used a harder spread on it but the taste was nice and it makes great toast. I noticed it has less calories than Dempster's (130 vs 190 per 2 slices) because it is not so dense. The cashier said they have fresh deliveries Monday, Wednesday and Friday. They have trouble keeping it in stock because everyone buys it. When I went back yesterday to get 4 loaves for the freezer, they were almost sold out again. I have a feeling they will soon be increasing the price since they have new $3 items and some of the old stock is creeping up in price. Anyway, if you are trying to cut corners, buy your bread from the Dollarama

I've never seen bread at Dollarama stores in Red Deer.Considering the price of bread these days no wonder it's so popular.

Sounds like it might be like the Sunshine bread I buy at FB. I might have to try it.

I never liked the idea of buying bread at Dollarama & have to admit I've turned my nose up at it many times, but I think I'm going to give it a try! Thanks!
Thanks for mentioning the calories, too. I was gonna ask about it. I can't recall if I see it at every Dollarama, but I know they have it at College Park in Toronto. It's the most cramped Dollarama I've ever been in, but they can still get that bread in there.

I've always seen the bread, usually as I am going to the cash. Have never tried it, always just figured it wouldn't be too good. I may have to grab a loaf next time I'm in there..

I've seen people buying this at Dollarama, but never really considered it before. Will try it and let you know how it is.

it does have less calories but also fewer nutrients and made with fairly substandard flour compared to the nutritious variety available in the grocery store. I would rather pay more for better bread.

Thanks OP. Tried it and it reminds me of the bread you could get at KFC many years ago. The loaf was buttered and wrapped in foil to keep it warm. So yummy!
