My gf and I play a "game" when we go to the store where the first one to spot the TIm's cup wins. Some stores (walmart) you can actually see a bunch. It's a silly lil thing we do that started out of us both being shocked that people would leave their trash right there. Put it in your cart/basket and toss it on the way out. job done

I still remember the time when a courtesy clerk was sent out in the Spring to clean out the garbage cans in the parking lot. I don't know if he actually cleaned it up or he refused...all I know was that one was full of poopy diapers that had been there all winter and had finally started to thaw. I don't think they could pay me enough to do that job.

Thanks for validating my rant! I never noticed it being so bad years ago. I have yet to see the new Tim's by my house without a long lineup...doesn't matter what time of day.

Based on the fact that many stores have coffee shops (e.g. Tim Hortons/McDonalds) or coffee stations located inside, I don't think coffee in the store is the problem as much as the litter that accompanies it is.

Less than the litter but more of the mindset of people who see shop workers as unpaid cleaners

Yeah, I don't condone the thinking that one can leave their trash anywhere and have others clean up after them because that screams entitlement. I just meant that I don't think bringing coffee into a store violates common courtesy.

Ugg, don't get me started. I worked retail for close to 10 years. It seemed over the years people became more entitled, in that they were leaving their trash everywhere. Once I almost poured an old cold coffee over me while putting away stock. Just barely missed spilling it, as someone decided to hide the half full cup behind a set of sheets. Used tissues were stuffed in random places etc. There were garbage cans behind each cash and at the entrance doors, so no excuse.

Any bookstore attached to a coffee shop-the little rectangular waste baskets get full after about 6 large coffee cups. And usually the spillover of cups is at the basket closest to the coffee shop. Finding cold or empty coffee cups on the shelves? Par for book retail course.
I notice how messy coffee counter self-serve milk/cream stations get as the sugar packets get ripped to spread contents all over. Once it seems that someone makes one messy spot, other patrons seem to think it's ok to add more mess.

Walmart, I noticed, has 2-3 garbage bins within its grocery department-handy for disposing of my cold drink cup purchased nearby before grocery shopping.

In Hamilton, there is a certain Canadian Tire store that when it expanded and added a coffee counter, the owner was quoted as saying that the associates could make the time to clean up customers' cups from the shelves, as the customers who are relaxed and getting their java tended to shop more/longer. Well, who let the customers off the hook for just being responsible in finding the trash can in the first place?

Yep here as well you can find coffee cups and garbage all over stores. What really drives me crazy are people who leave meat and frozen goods on the shelves in the aisles, I think they are trying to poison people.

One time at Walmart I seen a bag of Cheemo perogies on a shelf wth Tampax I thought yuck. Can't these people who dump stuff just return things to the shelf where they got them or give them to the cashier.Cashiers won't force people to leave a store with something they no longer want.

You sure hope your grocery store employs people who have some common sense and won't put thawed product back on the shelf! I remember seeing this huge package of steak on the counter and asked about it. Turns out they caught some woman trying to steal it by stuffing it down her pants! Can you imagine putting that back on the shelf...ewww.

It's disgusting to find someone else's garbage on shelves. While I normally have a coffee cup in my hand while shopping, I've never left it on a shelf. I worry that the store will stop permitting me to bring coffee cups into the store if I leave my litter lying around. I don't want to be the reason that the privilege gets taken away.

ugh. People can be so disgusting and rude. Seriously. The coffee cups on the shelves in a store annoy the heck out of me as well. Sometimes I wish I could hunt the culprit down and dump their cold coffee on their crotch.
