I don't shop at Walmart that much but when I have, I find a lot of their cashiers are poorly trained on even basic coupon issues and often call their supervisors over for even FPC's. I could see how Coupon stacking which can get quite extensive might fluster some of their cashiers. There is often math involved in making sure people don't overstack and again that might fluster younger employees. I find most of the cashiers at London Drugs are more experienced and at my London Drugs they want you to go to customer service for extensive stacking.

I don't think allowing stacking is something any store should do on a whim without fully understanding its implications. I don't think this Walmart did this.

I personally would advise any large store (Walmart/Save-On,etc.) that may introduce stacking to have dedicated stacking lanes at least to start with.

What a great idea, about having stacking specific lanes. Or at least have an extra Customer service attendant, and have all stacking done there.

That really does suck! I did a big shop there yesterday but certainly didn't try to misuse anything and definitely no fraudulent coupons! As far as the coupon overages being used on other items...that's in their corporate policy to do that - doesn't really have to do with stacking, as it can happen with a single coupon. But man alive, it sucks! I was excited all day thinking how life changing this could be!

The problem isn't if they go over a few cents the problem is if someone tries to use $10 of coupons(for example 5 $2.00 coupons) on something worth say $7.25, clearly in that example one of the $2.00 coupons should be denied. The cashier has to be able to add up the coupons in their head and make sure people aren't using too many coupons on a single product. If it was just one product someone was buying it would be straightforward but if someone is buying $200 worth of stuff and using $180 in coupons it can become quite complex. It may all be simple math but I have seen simple math fluster some cashiers before because usually they just let the cash register do the math for them.

Believe me I am all for stacking and I hope more stores implement it but if they do they should implement it after deciding on all the rules and after properly training their staff on being able to handle it. Btw, I personally do not think overages should be able to be applied to other products when it comes to stacking. It may happen on a single coupon on occassion but that is a rarity but in terms of stacking people could really abuse that. For instance should someone be able to use 2 different $10 Multibionta coupons on vitamins if the price is $10.99 and have the overage of $9.01 applied to other products? I personally do no think they should, IMO one of the coupons should be adjusted to $0.99 or flat out denied. It is almost fraud (to the manufacturer) for a store to accept $20 of coupons on something that cost $10.99 and then submit all $20 for reimbursement.

I know in the above circumstance that my London Drugs simply would deny one of the coupons.

I think it should be said that the manager of this store is working diligently to train his staff. There are going to be bumps and blips. What they think will work and what works may be two different things. I agree with the above poster about overages..... fact of the matter is that Walmart.com and Walmart.ca are honestly two different entities, and I worry that pushing the cashiers into accepting a policy that is based in the US will push this manager over the edge. Goodness knows I wouldn't tolerate it as a manager and would be more inclined to give up on the whole kit and kaboodle. Let's not push him into that.

Also I did speak with with a manager this morning....the store policy IS undergoing some changes, however, from what was hinted at..... that the same stipulations as was laid out previously is still in effect but that they are leagally bound by the clauses written on the coupon. (four like coupons for example).

They called over the manager and said they just had a meeting and stopped it. The langley Walmart closes at 11. I was so upset! There were couponers behind me too.

I spoke with Aaron, one of the managers this morning, and he indicated that though they may be changing the policy somewhat, it is still in effect. That being said, he also indicated that they are bound legally by the terms and conditions written on the coupon. So, "one coupon per purchase" *can* be combined, but "cannot be combined etc.." cannot.... and four like coupons per transaction etc.

So, be aware, follow the rules on your coupons, smile, and be patient as they iron out the wrinkles If you are taking the time to go there because of this, let's remain understanding that they haven't had the years that LD has in which to train, implement, and execute this policy and that it's a work in progress right now.

Agreed. I really hope that all couponers are patient and that we don't abuse what they're trying to do for us. In the end, it hurts us more than it hurts them.
