Thread: Walmart SCOP question

Mon, Sep 10th, 2012, 11:07 PM #1
So today I went to Walmart (Dundas and Dixie in Mississauga) for some shopping. I went to buy some Similac Mom, which I was going to price match for $9.99 from Metro. When I got to the shelf, I saw it for $8.97. I thought, 'great! I have a $10 coupon and two $5 coupons.. I'll get 3 at that price!'
When I got to the cash, they rang in at $11.97. I told her the price that was on the shelf and sure enough, the cashier came back sheepish. She was going to change the price to $8.97, but then I remembered the SCOP policy! She called the manager over who said that if the item was $10 or under, I would get the item for free. Since the real price was $11.97, they rang the first Similac Mom for $1.97, and the other two for $8.97.
I asked them if the item should actually be free free - seeing as it SHOULD have been $8.97. Does anyone know?
Regardless, I got the three Similac Moms, AND got to use my coupons!
Also, does the SCOP apply to clearance items that scan as regular price but have clearance price stickers on them?
Thank you!
(This was my first ever SCOP, I was so excited seeing as I'd only heard about it in SmartCanucks. This community is awesome!!)Last edited by jenh8su; Mon, Sep 10th, 2012 at 11:09 PM.

If the item has a price sticker attached then the price sticker price applies.

It is $10 off the shelf price. So it should have been free, not $1.97. Email and complain.
Get a full pair of glasses for as little as $29! The only place I buy my glasses. Super easy returns too - http://www.clearly.ca/refer/valerie

Yes, any SCOP I have read (usually posted near the cash) says that if something scans at a higher price you get the first item free UP TO $10.00. Any additional same items you were planning to buy would be adjusted to the price posted. So they should have adjusted the price, then removed $10.00...in your case, it would be free.

It applies to anything that has a price listed on the shelf...so just because it's in a clearance bin or w.e doesn't mean it doesn't warrant SCOP. If, for example, an item scans at full price instead of a clearance price, it still warrants SCOP. The whole purpose of SCOP is to keep businesses honest about the prices they've advertised on their shelf and to hold them liable if they don't correctly label their product prices...

That's what I thought. I had a few clearance items and they were arguing with me about it. I was sure I was right because of SmartCanucks, but ... they still haven't emailed me back
