Well, at least there are some government guidelines here, though not on the amount, but on the frequency of putting up rent.
Our landlord actually gave us one month notice to increase the rent - duh, I guess they are old and forgot that's not how it's done - he's done it before, lol! Six months' notice is required here - and they had to wait!
Frankly, the rent once it's upped is not out of line for the huge duplex we are in (though it's old), but MORE than that, especially for the location/neighbourhood we are in.
Prices for houses and rents here have skyrocketed as Saskatoon is in a wonderful boom period - and it's not going away.
However, doesn't mean it won't hurt US!

Gotcha, view is important!
Hm... but I think I'd pick space over that.
Well, that's it for me. Tummy is growling - my eating schedule is all off - had breakfast at 2 a.m., lunch at 8 a.m., and now I wanna snack!
Hope everyone has a great day, and a most FAB weekend!

Nope, and I just double-checked. Good thing I did, because the one thing which has changed is that rent increases can only be once a year, unless there is a tenants' association. So at least we can breathe for another year!
Some have tried to get in rent controls, but it just can't be done here - the housing market is just too tight, vacancy rate too low.
So it's a buyer's/renter's market - you can pay, you can stay...

The 1 bedroom wasn't really much bigger just added a small bedroom and full tub instead of shower. I like the shower since I pretty much never take bathes just showers. The view wasn't the only reason but I liked the way that apartment looked for some reason over the other one.

Hope you feel better Jennifer!!! I'll send you some chicken soup
Cabbie, I would hate having an apartment with no tubI don't take a bath often but I do love a nice long bubble bath every once in awhile. Besides, it wouldn't be doable with the kids! I had this one apartment (I've had many lol) that had the most beautiful soaker tub... the apartment itself was kind of crappy but OH that tub!!! lol

Ok, here's the short version of my problem.
We have a wedding to attend in Kenora in August.
It's a 20+ hour drive and we'll have our 4 and 2 year olds.
We wanted to rent an RV but that's not looking feasible ($1700 + kms + gas + RV rental spot + food)
We've looked at the hotels but they aren't very accommodating for 2 little ones. 1 room isn't really an option since the kids go to bed so early. DH and I would be sitting in the dark in silence all night. lol.
Renting 2 rooms would be quite expensive $400 a night.
We've looking at renting a cottage (we'd rather get a whole week vacation for the money we're spending) but we've only found about 10 places in the remote area and only 3 in our price range. 2 are already booked and 1 hasn't gotten back to me.
Any ideas? Things to consider? Places to look into?
