Super easy and delicious. I'm so addicted!

    Kettle Corn

    This is what you'll need...
1/4 cup vegetable oil (not olive)
    2/3 cup popcorn kernels
    1/4 cup sugar
    salt

    You'll also need...
...a cooking vessel. A large steel pot would work, I used a wok as it has a better shape being tapered at the bottom.
Make sure whatever you use has a nice fitting lid! Super important. Baking mitts help too if you're scared of getting burned.

    • Set the burner to medium high. Place pot/wok on top
    • Add the vegetable oil and put three kernels in it
    • Wait until the kernels pop, which signifies the oil is hot enough
    • Add in all the kernels and sugar
    • Stir and put the lid on
    • Remove from heat every 5 seconds to give it a good shake then return it to the heat for another 5 seconds
    • Repeat until you think all the kernels have popped (the popping will have slowed down, leaving a couple seconds in between the kernels popping.)
    • Shake, shake, shake, have a large bowl ready and DUMP!
    • Salt right away and toss to separate the popcorn.
    • You're done!

It's super important you shake the pot/wok. This prevents the popcorn and sugar from burning! Enjoy!

I have been making this for a few years but I think you're recipe will work better, with mine you add all the ingredients at once. With your method of adding the sugar and popcorn together it shouldn't burn the sugar so easily. Thanks I will be trying this method tonight!! This stuff keeps really well to bag up for gifts too.Really inexpensive and delicious. Thanks

i've been doing this for a few years. the worst part is the jiggling while moving the pot around! haha

when i make mine i like to use a pot with a see through lid, makes it easier and more fun!
i'm paranoid, so i take a kitchen towel and fold it lengthwise so that i can drape it over the top of the pot, and over each of the side handles. keeps me from accidentally touching the pot while it's hot when i'm holding the handles and jiggling, err, shaking :p and makes sure i don't accidentally fling the lid right off and onto the floor.

janetta! Lovely recipe. Many years ago I made a sort of sweet salty thing too..but it involved brown sugar and oil along with cinnamon I think. Boy it was awful if any of it burned before they all popped. Unbelievable taste though.
Sadly I do not do corn of any kind and the no salt/sugar thing too, but everybody else enjoy!!!

LOL, I've made a few batches already (my family is going nuts) and I think I strained the muscle between my shoulder and torso! My armpit muscle!?
It's times like these I wish I purchased that Whirley Pop at Winners.

Janetta if this is your new addiction I would buy myself a Whirly Pop. It is the best thing I have found to make kettle corn!

Made a batch with dark brown sugar and used extra fine sea salt!
