Mary Maxim is one, but mostly has kits. Heavy on the yarn crafts...

Amazon dot ca has craft items, too - note, most of them don't run through the site itself, so may not qualify for free shipping (it tells you when you view items).
When you search, look in different categories - sewing, crafts and hobbies, everything else, home and garden
Not Canadian, but... For assorted cheap craft items, I order from Oriental Trading Company from the US. Cheap prices help defray the shipping cost. Also, they use the Borderfree service, so once you fill your shopping basket, you transfer to the CDN borderfree area, and then you can see which items have duty, the costs in CDN money, etc. - and you can change things if you want to delete items, etc. before you go ahead.
They have awesome customer service, which is a huge bonus. I've gotten boxes shipped in about a week.
Great search item on site, too - you can stick in almost any word, get everything priced from low to high, etc.

I wish Hobby Lobby and Oriental Trading would open up some stores here in Canada or at least create an online Canadian counterpart. It's so frustrating having Michael's as a primary arts and crafts store b/c they are SO expensive if you can't find misc goods you need at your local dollar stores.

...AND she got me hooked!!! Whatever you're looking for, go here: http://www.aliexpress.com/all-wholesale-products.html
When you're at the page that has your supplies, click on "Free shipping" and "1 piece only" and prepare a very large pot of coffee to take to the computer with you..
Thank you again, Lecale for a great place to look for 'stuff'!!
I just found a set of 18-sets of bamboo knitting needles sizes 2mm-10mm for around $8, but then I checked ebay.ca and have a bid of $2 on a set....who knows? If not one, then the other...
$8 will maybe only get you ONE pair of bamboo needles at Michaels!!!

Newly launched: http://artisanthropy.ca - we supply heirloom quality supplies for needle arts crafters - tatting, embroidery, sewing, leatherwork needles & thread. We're having a 25% off sale right now (code on our Facebook Page), and if you find us on VarageSale, you can get a coupon for free, local pickup (available while Canada Post is figuring out their situation). We're adding new products every day, and as we make more sales, we'll be able to add more stuff. We plan on adding knitting and crochet supplies in future as well. Our mandate is to only stock high quality items, locally produced wherever possible. We are aiming to be the anti-Michael's, and plan to not stock anything cheap that was made in China.

My Mom used to be a loyal Michaels customer.....up until I introduced her to Amazon and eBay. Now she orders all her craft supplies online and brags about how much cheaper it is than Michaels
