As per the theory of Dr. Donald W. Miller Jr. M.D.Vitamin D has a huge effect on our immunity. Vitamin D helps to prevent the flu. A lack of Vitamin D affects the overall body. to avoid the flu virus Vitamin D is essential .
So instead of getting Flu Shots increase intake of Vita-D in your food.

No flu shots and still no flu here.
it has been very bad in my area this year, and if there is something going around I am usually the first to get it.
I thought we were getting it a few weeks ago because we felt a little sluggish and warm and sick to our stomachs at the same time, but it passed within hours so I am pretty sure we have had the strain that is making its rounds and fought it off naturally.

Three things are circulating in Ontario right now
    1. seasonal influenza
    2. norovirus -- stomach virus
    3. respiratory virus

Same in SK, pretty much - just hoping we avoid noro; my son and I had that a few years ago, it was absolutely horrid!
It's the sickiest season for way more people than I ever remember! Plus, they are re-circulating.

Yes. Recirculating with Christmas/holiday get-to-gethers. Students are back to school. Just great places for the the viruses to incubate and grow and have a "party"

Ontario hospitals still turning away mild ill people, because they are swamped

US states -some declaring an epidemic for influenza

No. I do not get vaccines, period. I don't believe in them. It's just the flu. For me, the cons of the vaccine far out way the actual sickness. If you have a healthy diet you should be fine. There are tons of natural ways to prevent and get rid of the flu. Having the flu is also actually good for you. It builds your immune system and means you're less liking to get sick again. Nothing wrong with a few days off work even if you are throwing up :p

But why do we need to prevent the flu? It's just the flu.

Eating healthy is necessary, not the flu shot.

Totally agreed with you but flu spreads through viruses it is nothing but a viral infection. So i think that flu shot is necessary even to keep yourself healthy.

But if you already have a compromised immune system, eating well isn't enough.

I've worked in a hospital for more than 10 years and I've only gotten the flu shot once (because I was living with my sister and her new baby and she made me get the shot). Only people with compromised (elderly or sick) or under-developed (infants/young children) immune systems should get the shot (or those who are closely around them) as these are the groups of people who can die if they get the flu. I've never gotten the flu ever and I'm exposed to it almost every day. And, the vaccine doesn't always work! They guess what the active viruses will be.

The companies that make the flu vaccines tell us all about what it'll protect us from but they don't tell you what else is in it. One ingredient is formaldehyde. This is a nasty compound and it actually has a special disposal method in research labs. it also has to be used in a special fume hood to ensure one doesn't inhale the fumes.... Very toxic. Who would actually choose to put this in their body on a regular basis?

Other bad ingredients are mercury and several antibiotics. We get too much mercury in our bodies already, who wants more? And antibiotics? They actually wipe out the beneficial bacteria in our body and lower our immune system. Ironic, eh?

There are also several ugly stuff in them that have been linked to reproductive side effects and carcinogenic (ie, cause cancer) and mutagenic (cause genetic mutations) events in animals. While we are different from a lot of animals, we have a lot of similarilities, including in the backbone of our DNA.

I, for one, do not want to chance it. It's said that it only takes 2 cellular events for cancer to occur. For instance, a family history of disease plus exposure to a carcinogen. We are exposed to so many other carcinogenic agents in our day to day life, why add another one when it can be avoided.

    Just my 2 cents....
