Donation Thread

I am always thinking of the best places to donate my extra items or things that I see on sale that would benefit someone else.
I would love to donate to a few different shelters and organizations and have contacted a few (with no response).
Would it be a good idea to have a donation thread to see where other people donate their items? Maybe get some ideas of shelters or non-profit organizations that in need more than others.

I donate to a lot of rehab facilities in my area. The ones for young women and men. They are always in need of personal hygiene items. Sure they have the usual tiny hotel bottles of not so great shampoo/conditioner and such, but it's nice for these people to get a lift once in a while so I donate good quality items, and always full size bottles.

A lot of these guys are sesponsible to get their own laundry soaps and personal items, and they don't have family to help them with funds. This is always needed and greatly appreciated.

I also donate to the foodbank, especially in the summer when the shelves are quite bare. People give a lot on holidays, Thanksgiving, Easter, Christmas, but people need to eat the rest of the year too.

So many great places to give, no kill animal shelters, homeless shelters, battered men and womens shelters, seniors centers. Just choose one that means something to you.

I have contacted a few different shelters with no response of allowing me to donate and what their needs are. I have worked in group homes and I know that they don't look kindly upon an unexpected knock on the door and some have strict policies for their donations.
I was looking for specific places to donate in the Brampton area.
I have already made many large donations to the Salvation Army, but would also like to donate to smaller organizations that don't get alot of stuff.
Rehab centres and senior citizen homes sound good. I will have to look up the ones in my area.

I donate to my son's school. I just check with the principal first and they are more than happy to accept things. Last week I took them 9 Scrabble and monopoly games, this week i got Voortmans cookies on sale and I have 30 packages for them. I like to give to them because I get to see where it goes and to whom.

I donate all my extra stuff to a women's shelter near where my mum lives in Brantford. For the pet coupons I will save them up and but food / toys / treats for the dog rescue that I volunteer with or the local animal shelter.

I just donated all of my sample sized shampoo/conditioners & some full-sized deodorants to be put into stockings for former foster kids who've left care (teens who've moved out on their own).
Donating at Christmas is definitely more accessible, there's always food & toy drives going on.
